Something I am very much interested in is the situation in the two great cities of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. The day these two cities finally are liberated will be a major turning point in the SMO, I believe. Hopefully this will come to pass before too long. They have been heavily fortified, but the heavy fortification of other places like Mariopol only slowed the advance a bit. More importantly, the best trained Ukranian troops are already dead, wounded or captured. Most heavy weaponry has been destroyed so now it’s going to be poorly trained, underequipped, undernourished defenders, while Russia rotates its troops. The west cant keep up sending money (which they dont have) or equipment and more and more Zelenski is slowly being disavowed. I think it won’t be too long anymore.

I think we all know that If Putin decides to go in hard against the Ukies, the Donbass would be liberated in a matter of weeks. But as the president is a patient man, I feel that he will carry on in the same way for the foreseeable future. Why change something when it isn’t broke? And you are correct in assuming that the Donbass will be liberated within a year.
If you believe the story about a Russian soldier from donbass which would explain the struggles: Russia is in lack of good equipment and training for its soldiers. If Putin or Shoigou starts to end the overwhelming corruption and ineffectivness of the army organization they would have won the whole Ukraine easily. The real Russian enemy is not the Ukraine it are corrupted officers who spend the money for their pleasure instead of new effective materials for the glory of Russia.
It saddens me to read about the level of corruption in Russia, for sure this is a major problem for Putin and his people to sort out. I’m no general or military man, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I notice that on the map Ozerne (East of Seversk) is on a road that seems to have no major villages on it. Or at least, none that have been named on the map. It seems to me that Russia and her allies might advance down that road to try and lengthen the cauldron that they are setting up around the Seversk area. If they can make it all the way down that road too, they can cut off Bakhmut and Slavyansk off from direct contact with one another. This also has the secondary goal of threatening the road that connects Bakhmut and Seversk together.
I’m not very familiar with the terrain of Ukraine, let alone to fully understand the tactics of the Russian Army other then they are doing one hell of a job at grinding away at the enemy and wearing them down. Slow and steady wins the race and I’m willing to bet on Russia, the DRP and LPR. Perhaps someone with some more military tactical knowledge might be able to enlighten me if my proposed idea would be a feasible one, or just too much video game tactics?
Ozerne is west of Seversk, not east. The roads to and from Seversk have been extensively mined, which is why progress is slow. Fortified areas are outflanked rather than stormed. Lack of ammunition and food leads to desertion and surrender. Zelensky’s popularity in Kiev is falling.

It is also my understanding, that it is Lugansk and Doneskt infantry doing the front line fighting. Russia military support is artillery, missiles and air.
