The conflict in Yemen is heading to a new round of escalation. The advance of the Saudi-UAE-led coalition on the city of al-Hudaydah has resulted in another failure. However, the coalition continues its attemtps to gain more ground across western Yemen. The Houthis (also known as Ansar Allah) repond with hit-and-run attacks as well as missile and drone strikes.

base on the map houthis are gaining ground. Bravo.

You can call me Al

So is ISIS / AQ; the dark brown / black blobs – how I would love the day when they swing into KSA and eliminate them all.

Promitheas Apollonious

They will never do that, so dont hold your breath on that part. But as global events unfolding globally I see russians and other players in the global scene, to start supporting houthis openly. As for the blobs…. they are not in houthi territory so is not much that can be done about that, from the houthis, unless they take over the whole of the country that at this point it does not seem possible.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:10 P.M.) – A political delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council reportedly visited northern Syria on Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

According to the SOHR, the Gulf delegation traveled from Turkey to the border-city of Kobane (var. ‘Ayn Al-‘Arab) in the northern countryside of Aleppo The purpose of the Gulf delegation’s visit is unknown; however, earlier this month, the Turkish media reported that Saudi and Emirati (UAE) troops had deployed to northeastern Syria.

Since these claims were made, no photos or videos have been released to corroborate these claims.

In early November, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reopened their embassy in Damascus after closing it at the start of the Syrian Conflict.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:20 P.M.) – The Houthis Movement launched a counter-offensive in eastern Hodeidah on Monday that targeted the areas they recently lost to the Saudi Coalition forces.

According to the media wing of the Houthis, their forces stormed the Saudi Coalition’s defenses inside the Hays District; this resulted in a fierce battle between the two forces.

The Houthis claimed that their troops killed dozens of Saudi Coalition fighters in the Hays District, while also damaging a pick-up truck that was carrying a number of the latter’s fighters in the area.

No gains have been reported by the Houthis as of yet.

Coalition offensive ability is now about zero. I do not think Houthis aiming to take territory in lead up to peace negotiations – it was the Coalition that needed to take strategic territory, and once again produced consistent results. The Houthis seem to be focusing on troop concentrations with sudden hit and run to inflict casualties on Coalition with little loss on there side.

I suspect this is to further degrade coalition and prompt more desertion which is already a problem. As I see it, this is a way of strengthening negotiation position for Houthis as Coalition needs peace because they have no viable army. Why don’t Houthis refuse peace talks and go on offensive? This would likely provoke US intervention.

So here comes the peace talks. I think they should be opened as follows.

Trump: Welcome to the peace talks that Saudi Arabia and Yemen agreed to at my gentle urging.

MbS comes forward looking not to pleased.

Trump: now for those who thought I would not punish those responsible for the preplanned accidental murder of Khashoggi only have to watch this soap opera in the making right here as I insisted MbS personally head the loser team in negotiations. Now to introduce the lead negotiator of the winning team, Nasrallah of Hezbollah. Now for the photo op… oh MbS, try not to screw up like that terrible, terrible photo op with Khashoggi’s brother, now shake hands.

MbS has horror on his face as Nasrallah comes forward and refuses to extend his hand but has a few words to say.

Nasrallah: well MbS, I want to thank you for all you have done for Hezbollah, my coming here to represent the Houthis in your humiliation was the least I could do. Hezbollah could never have dreamed of uniting all of Lebanon against you and pushing Lebanon away from the West until your miracle of making the most disastrous foreign relations stunt ever in the history of the planet. Only you could dream up having Hariri resign while you held a knife to his back for all the world to see. But Khashoggi is certainly up there as well. Then of course Yemen, to make it three total disasters and I think in hockey they call that a hat trick.

Trump: I did not know you were a hockey fan.

Nasrallah: huge Gretzky fan.

Trump fuels eyebrows: isn’t Gretzky Canadian

Nasrallah: oh, Gretzky played for the American Los Angela’s Lakers and humiliated the Toronto Maple Leafs knocking the Leafs out of Stanley Cup contention… as punishment for Canadian unfair trade practices

Trump breaks into huge smile: Serves those Canadians right. You are a winner like the Houthis, I like winners.

Nasrallah: I like your style

Trump: so do I

Snowglobe
