the ussr was the worst mistake russia made, after it fell, and lost 25% of russian territory, it threw the former soviets into misery dealing a huge blow to their self esteem. while in the 1990s the west prospered and reached peak cultural dominance movies/music, tech (cellphones,internet etc…) it was seem by ukraine as the future, successful and free vs repressive collapsed soviet socialism, that along with propaganda and manipulation of ukrainian nationalism led to this.
