On July 7, the Houthis unveiled new locally-manufactured missiles and drones in a small military exhibition attended by senior Yemeni officials.
Mahdi al-Mashat, the president of the Supreme Political Council, inaugurated the exhibition, which was named after his predecessor Saleh Ali al-Sammad who was assassinated by the Saudi-led coalition last year.
Other senior Yemeni officials attended the exhibition, including Yemen’s defense minister in the Houthis-affiliated government, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Nasser.
“We have reached an advanced stage in the field of military industry with Yemeni efforts and experiences and what’s yet to come will be greater and more painful [for the enemy],” Maj. Gen. Nasser told the al-Masirah TV.
During the exhibition, the Houthis showcased for the first time their Quds-1 cruise missile, Badir-F precision-guided tactical ballistic missile, as well as Samad-1, Samad-3 and Qasef-2K unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Some older weapons systems were also displayed.

Quds-1 Cruise Missile
The Martyr Saleh al-Samad Exhibition for Yemeni Military Industries provided us with the first ever look at the Quds-1 cruise missile, which was used by the Houthis in at least two successful attacks.
Previously it was believed that the missile was derivative from the Iranian Soumar cruise missile, a copy of the Soviet Kh-55 cruise missile. However, the new photos reveal that the Houthis’ missile has very unique characteristics, like the top-mounted turbojet engine and the static wings.

The missile’s engine appears to be identical to the TJ-100. The turbojet engine, that’s is produced by Czech’s PBS Velká Bíteš, is not used in any known missile. The Saudi-led coalition had showcased some the engine’s remains.

The Houthis have not revealed any of the missile’s specs, so far. However, it is believed to has a range of more than 150km. As for guidance, the missile likely relays on an Inertial navigation system (INS) aided by a satellite navigation system such as GPS or GLONASS.
Furthermore, the missile could be equipped with some sort of terrain contour matching (TERCOM) system. This would allow the missile to fly on low altitude and remain undetected by the enemy’s radars.
The Quds-1 cruise missile hit the arrival terminal in Abha International Airport on June 12 with high-accuracy. The missiles was also used in the June 19 attack on the al-Shuqaiq Water Desalination and Power Plant in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Badir-F Precision-Guided Tactical Ballistic Missile
The Houthis revealed the Badir-F precision-guided tactical ballistic missile for the first time on April 16. Despite this, the missile was showcased in the Saleh al-Samad Exhibition for Yemeni Military Industries.
Photos of the missile show that it has a bigger diameter than its predecessors, the Badir-1 and the guided Badir-1P. The missile size is closer to that of the Soviet OTR-21 Tochka. However, its design lines are completely different.

When the missile was first revealed, the Houthis claimed that it is guided with a range of up to 160km and that it is armed with a heavy warhead equipped with a proximity fuze. A spokesman for the Houthis said back then that the missile would explode 20 meters above the center of the designated target and would scatter some 14,000 pieces of shrapnel in a circular area with a radius of 350 meters.
The missile photos confirm some of the Houthis claims. The missile is indeed equipped with moving fins, which confirms the presence of a gaudiness system. A laser proximity fuze can be also spotted in the missile’s nose.

Missiles of the Badir-F type have been used in several successful attacks on the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies since last April. The most recent attack targeted a military camp of Saudi-backed forces in the central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.
Samad-1 UAV
The Houthis also displayed in the military exhibition a previously unknown reconnaissance UAV, the Samad-1.

The design of Samad-1 is identical to that of Hezbollah’s Mirsad UAV. The Lebanese group displayed a UAV of this type in the Museum for Resistance Tourism in southern Lebanon last year.

The Samad-1 appears to be equipped with an electro-optical reconnaissance system along with two data links, likely for control and live broadcast. The UAV is not believed to be capable of carrying weapons of any type. However, the Houthis can likely equip Samad-1 with a warhead and use it as a suicide UAV, similar to other types.
Samad-3 UAV
The third generation of the Samad UAV family was displayed for the first time. The Samad-3 design follow the same lines as the first generation. However, the UAV is equipped with what appears to be a conformal fuel tank (CFT). A unique feature that likely extends the UAV’s range in a significant way.

Unlike the first generation, Samad-3 is a suicide UAV designed to strike targets located deep inside Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emiratis (UAE).
On July 26, 2018, the Houthis targeted Abu Dhabi International Airport in the UAE with a Samad-3 UAV. The airport is located more than 1,500km away from the Houthi-held areas in western Yemen.
Qasef-2K UAV
The Saleh al-Samad Exhibition for Yemeni Military Industries provided us with the first look at the Qasef-2K UAV, which was introduced by the Houthis for the first time last January.
As many experts have expected, the Qasef-2K design is identical to that of the Qasef-1, which is a copy of the Iranian Ababil-2, according to a report of the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) group.

Unlike the first generation, the Qasef-2K is armed with a heavy high-explosive fragmentation [HE-FRAG] warhead that explodes 20meters over the target.
The Qasef-2K was used for the first time in an attack on a military parade of Saudi-backed forces in the southern district of al-Anad. The attack killed six personnel of Saudi-backed forces, including senior officers.
Since then, UAVs of the Qasef-2K have been used in dozens of attacks, mainly on facilities in southern Saudi Arabia.
Older weapon systems
Additionally, the Houthis showcased older weapons systems in the Saleh al-Samad Exhibition for Yemeni Military Industries.
The Scud-based Burkan-1 and Burkan-2H tactical ballistic missiles were displayed along with Badir-1 and Badir-1P artillery rocket. The Qahir-2M missile, which is based on the S-75 air defense missile, was also showcased.

Growing Capabilities

If you can provide nuclear assessments of comparable quality to what I’ve provided of Israel’s nuclear capability, or something similar supporting your assessment of Iran’s nuclear capability. I’d be happy to take a look at it.
Even if Iran goes nuclear. MAD would still be a major factor. It doesn’t prevent an Israeli nuclear first strike. But it would be clear to the Iranians that if they press Israel hard enough conventionally. It will precipitate a first strike. And if Iran has crossed the nuclear weapons threshold. An Israeli first strike will be far worse than a first strike against a conventionally armed Iran.
Knowing that a first strike will result in a return nuclear strike. Israel won’t hold back, the first strike will be a knockout blow with enough destruction wrought on Iran. That it will be to high of a price for Iran to pay for destroying Israel in return.
So whether Iran is nuclear armed or not. They’re unlikely to press Israel hard enough to get hit with a nuclear first strike. And none of Israel’s bordering neighbors are either for the same reasons.
I don’t know the exact nature of Israel’s nuclear arsenal. But I’m assuming that it includes tactical nukes as a force multiplier. So whatever the IDF’s short comings may be. Tactical nukes would be used to close the gap on an as needed basis.
Real question, in the event of war between Israel and Iran, is level of casualties Israelis are prepared to accept in their efforts to “neutralize” Iran. Recent history suggests that Israelis would not accept casualties that go beyond a handful–let us say, a few dozen–military personnel. This, I think, is the main brake on Israel’s desire and any plans it has been making to annihilate Iran.
Israel knows that any sub nuclear conflict with Iran is a no win situation. Which is why they’ve never hit Iran. And are unlikely to initiate hostilities in a sub nuclear environment. The ayatollah say that if the domestic ban on nukes is withdrawn and Iran pursues them. That there’s nothing that the US can do. Short of war, the US has pretty much done all that it can. And so has Israel. Additional action could be taken at the UN. But what it would consist of beyond N. Korean style sanctions is questionable.
There are many other offensive, out of the box, strategies of which neither of you here mention. These strategies will come into play long before either side decides to go “MAD”. I’ll mention only one. A physical and economic choke hold on secondary soft targets which target the civilian population…I’ll leave the details out. Use your imagination. Keep one thing in mind, Iran has yet to use offensive strategy and tactics. Physical wars are in the past. New Era of waging war has bypassed sanctions, embargoes and blockades, Iran has proven as such…soft secondary targets are plentiful in the west making the nuclear option unnecessary. Causing civilian strife to soft infrastructure targets will manipulate an effect on Western economies that will take decades to overcome. The plans exist and will be implemented to coincide with any physical waged war targeting Iran.
The way out has been previously mentioned. Implementation of international law including right of return…Israel will cease to exist one way or another. By peaceful means, or if they choose, otherwise.
Much of what you describe has been part of the friction between nations and groups throughout human history. I’ve outlined what I think needs to be done to resolve the Israel problem in an implementable plan on this thread and elsewhere. If you have one, I’d be interested in hearing it.
When it comes down to it, in all fairness and logic, implementation of international law and right of return. Crimes against humanity and without amnesty. Criminals must be brought to justice. And it must not be allowed to go in the way of how it played out in South Africa. The criminals would love nothing more than to draw this out for decades as it did in South Africa. Thereby giving time to form more schemes. Israel is at present working towards a segregated society ( 2nd and 3rd class citizens ) to slow down the inevitable, using BDS to form new narratives and buying time to implement laws in the form of being anti – anti-semitic in nature. If this course of action continues the US will find itself, eventually, without allies. There is no out for israel. There will never be a majority, Jew-only nation, in the midst of centuries old Islamic nations. There only option is to exist as a minority, with equal rights, amongst the Palestinians. The sooner this is recognised the better. The colonial project has run its course…the monarchies are doomed as well. It’s a matter of when, not if.

I actually agree with you that use of nukes will deter attack but Assad, Hezbollah have been explicit they will liberate the Golan. By the way, you say you doubt Israel would use nukes to defend Golan. If the Arabs believe as you do, then there will not be, as you claim, a deterrent to liberating Golan because the deterrent is not credible if unwilling to use them.
Russian officials have commented as well. An interview with the Russian ambassador to Lebanon made it clear a year ago that the Golan must be returned, otherwise there will be no peace – his words. This I have detailed in prior comments with links. I will post the links shortly.
Also, Russian command and control is integrated with Syrian air defence systems that are reserved for Russian military only – that is until now. Why the exception for Syria? One thing it does do is if Syria goes to war with Israel over the Golan, and they have said they would if diplomacy fails, it would pull Russia into it by default, at least in my view.
Now that Golan is annexed and recognized by US, diplomacy is remote hope. So as I said, will words be matched by deeds? Also, if tac nukes are actually used by Israel on attacking forces, all hell will break loose. Your assumption is it will not happen. I am not so sure.
Israel has a conventional deterrent to liberating the Golan. In 73 they were prepared to use nukes to push back a conventional invasion of Israel. They didn’t use them when Syria was already in the Golan. So if history is any precedent, they won’t use them if Syria retakes the Golan by conventional force again and holds it this time. The Golan needs to be liberated in conjunction with the West Bank. So that Israel is fighting a conventional 2 front war like in 73. Which this time they will lose without direct US intervention. And it needs to include a nuclear guarantor. With Russia probably being the only realistic option. To insure that Israel doesn’t resort to nukes in the Golan and West Bank. And to deter US entry into the war on Israel’s side.

The question for the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia is whether they would be prepared to tolerate the amount of destruction and level of casualties they would suffer if they were to go ahead with a “first strike” against Iran. I believe the Saudi leadership would be largely indifferent to level of casualties among Saudi civilians. On other hand, I believe the US military would want to avoid any conflict that results in destruction of US naval vessels or in large number of casualties. I believe, too, Israelis would also want to avoid any conflict which would result in large number of Israeli casualties.
If it was just military losses, which are bad enough. The US, Israel and Britain might be willing to attack Iran. But when you add in the economic collapse and oil shortage issues. And the possibility of drawing the SCO into the conflict on Iran’s side if the economic collapse, oil shortages and resulting famine become bad enough. That decreases the possibility of military escalation.

As I understand it Russia retired all of their BUKs in favor of more advanced surface-to-air missiles. However, countries like Ukraine still have BUKs and had a number of them deployed in battle in 2014, supposedly in case Russia began a bombing campaign against the rump state. That would mean that the Russians would have had to have brought the missile across the Russian border into Donbas the night before to shoot down an airliner whose course had changed midflight and then sneak it back to Russia. Cependant, la vérité est que la Résolution 181 ne lui a rien conféré de tel. L’Assemblée Générale de l’ONU n’avait aucune autorité pour partitionner la Palestine contre la volonté de la majorité de ses habitants. Et elle n’a pas non plus eu la prétention de faire une telle chose. Au contraire, l’Assemblée s’est contentée de recommander la partition de la Palestine en Etats juif et arabe séparés, ce qui devrait être accepté par les deux peuples pour prendre effet sur le plan juridique. L’Assemblée a transmis la question au Conseil de sécurité, où le plan est devenu caduc du fait de la reconnaissance explicite que l’ONU n’avait aucune autorité pour mettre en œuvre – c’est-à-dire imposer – une telle partition.
La déclaration unilatérale des sionistes est souvent décrite comme une « Déclaration d’indépendance ». Mais ce n’était rien de tel. Une déclaration d’indépendance suppose que le peuple qui déclare son indépendance soit souverain sur le territoire sur lequel il souhaite exercer son droit à l’autodétermination. Mais les sionistes n’étaient pas souverains sur la terre qui est devenue le territoire de l’État d’Israël.
Au contraire, lorsqu’ils ont déclaré l’existence d’Israël, les Juifs possédaient moins de 7% de la terre en Palestine. Les Palestiniens possédaient plus de terres que les Juifs dans chacun des districts de la Palestine. Les Palestiniens constituaient également une majorité numérique en Palestine. Malgré l’immigration massive [et illégale], les Juifs restaient une minorité représentant environ un tiers de la population.
Même à l’intérieur du territoire proposé par l’ONU pour l’Etat juif, lorsque la population bédouine a été recensée, les Arabes constituaient une majorité. Même à l’intérieur de ce territoire, les Arabes possédaient plus de terres que les Juifs.
En clair, les dirigeants sionistes n’avaient absolument aucune légitimité [sinon celle de leurs textes religieux, qui ne font autorité nulle part] à revendiquer une souveraineté sur le territoire qu’ils ont finalement acquis par la guerre.
D’autant plus que l’acquisition de territoire par la guerre – ou droit de conquête – est interdite par le droit international.
Loin d’être le fruit d’un processus politique légitime, Israël a été créé par la violence. Les sionistes ont acquis la majeure partie du territoire de leur État par le nettoyage ethnique de la majeure partie de la population arabe, soit plus de 700 000 personnes, exclues de leurs demeures et de leurs terres en Palestine. Des centaines de villages arabes ont été littéralement détruits et rayés de la carte.
Ainsi, quand les sionistes prétendent qu’Israël a un « droit à l’existence », ce qu’ils disent en réalité, c’est que les sionistes avaient le « droit » de procéder à un nettoyage ethnique de la Palestine afin d’établir leur « Etat juif ».
Évidemment, un tel droit n’existe pas. Au contraire, une fois de plus, en droit international, le nettoyage ethnique est reconnu comme un crime contre l’humanité.
Les sionistes accusent ceux qui dénoncent les crimes d’Israël contre les Palestiniens de vouloir « délégitimer » l’ « Etat juif », mais il importe de souligner que la déclaration unilatérale du 14 mai 1948 proclamant l’Etat d’Israël n’avait aucune légitimité. Il importe de souligner que le crime de nettoyage ethnique ne peut aucunement être justifié ou légitimé. Cela neutralise complètement les accusations des thuriféraires d’Israël.
Lorsque cette accusation est portée contre les détracteurs d’Israël, ce qui se passe réellement, c’est que ce sont les apologistes d’Israël qui tentent de délégitimer le droit des Palestiniens à l’autodétermination, ainsi que le droit internationalement reconnu des réfugiés de guerre à retourner dans leur patrie.
Indépendamment de l’illégitimité des moyens par lesquels Israël a été créé, il existe. Telle est la réalité actuelle. Cependant, l’exigence de l’Etat d’Israël que les Palestiniens reconnaissent son « droit » non seulement d’exister, mais d’exister « en tant qu’Etat juif », est simplement une exigence que les Palestiniens renoncent à leurs droits et adhèrent à la déclaration unilatérale des sionistes et au nettoyage ethnique de la Palestine en les reconnaissant comme légitimes.
Et c’est pourquoi il n’y a pas eu de paix. Il n’y aura pas de paix tant que les droits des Palestiniens ne seront pas reconnus et respectés. Le problème pour les sionistes est que si les Palestiniens exercent leurs droits, cela signifierait la fin de l’existence d’Israël en tant qu’ « Etat juif ».
Mais qu’y aurait-il de mal à mettre fin à un régime fondamentalement raciste qui viole perpétuellement le droit international et les droits de l’homme des Palestiniens ? Qu’y aurait-il de mal à le remplacer par un gouvernement qui respecte l’égalité des droits de tous les habitants du territoire sur lequel il exerce sa souveraineté politique et gouverne avec le consentement des gouvernés ?
Pour quiconque est capable de faire preuve d’un minimum d’honnêteté et d’intégrité morale, la réponse claire aux deux questions est : rien. Il n’y aurait aucun mal à cela, bien au contraire.
Pour tous ceux qui jouent un rôle actif dans la recherche de la paix et de la justice, c’est donc sur ce but que nous devons concentrer nos efforts collectifs. Il faut commencer par acquérir une bonne compréhension de la véritable nature du conflit et par ouvrir les yeux de tous ceux qui sont intègres, mais qui ont été trompés par les mensonges et la propagande qui ont perpétué la violence et l’injustice pendant si longtemps.
