Modern U.S. Drone Crashes In Western Iraq (Photos)

Support SouthFront

On January 4, a modern unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operated by the U.S.-led coalition crashed in Iraq’s western region.

An Iraqi security source told the al-Sumaria News TV that the UAV crashed while conducting a surveillance mission over western Anbar as a result of what he called “a technical failure.”

“An American drone crashed while flying on a surveillance mission east of al-Baghdadi district in the area of Hit, west of Anbar,” the Iraqi news channel quoted the source as saying.

Iraqi sources released several photos showing the wreckage of the UAV, which was identified by experts as a Boeing Insitu ScanEagle 2.

This type of UAVs, which entered service with the U.S. military in 2014, has a cruising speed of 148 km/h, a maximum operating altitude of 5,950m and an endurance of more than 16 hours.

Some sources claimed that the UAV was in fact downed by the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), which had vowed to retaliate to recent U.S. strikes on their personnel. However, these claims have not been confirmed, yet.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

AHAHHAHAHAHAAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iraq needs to buy & install modern Russian air defense systems (eg S300s, Pantsirs etc). The sooner they secure their airspace the sooner the US will leave.

Prince Teutonic

They already have Russian S-300’s and by reverse-engineering they developed upgraded versions of it…

Nope, that is Iran, not Iraq.

That might happen sooner than later. Iraq can’t ‘kick the US out’ and just sit there doing nothing – the place would go full-retard. We (U.S.) destabilized Iraq on purpose and kept it as weak and divided as humanly possible. Just enough ‘military’ to fend off ISIS (with US nannies looking over their shoulder).

Now if Iraq kicks the US out, I’m guessing they’ll invite Russia in. Why? Because Russia seems to be able to rebuild a foreign nation’s decimated, ill-equipped army without STEALING THEIR F’KING LAND, OIL OR GOLD FOR ISRAEL. Honestly, I don’t know how Russia does it. Why would anyone do anything for anybody if there was no clear benefit for Israel? God damn anti-Semites!

In any case, Russians will probably advise the Iraqis to get S-400s, not Patriots. Damn you, Putin!

Who is Iraq in Your terms? The Coalision are called in and help them improve their military capabilities.

If the Coalision leave most of Iraq will be a part of Iran. I dont care, when I see the public elected ones replaced with other just as corupt having same kind of unimployment rates.

We will save money, and You only will see, that most dirt in Your place is made by Yourself.

The Coalition were called in? Do you mean like someone ‘calls in’ a tapeworm to clean out their intestines? We’re a fucking parasite.

The US KILLED a million Iraqis to ‘liberate’ them, destroyed what little infrastructure they had and shut down their oil operations until we had proper financial confiscation tools in place. Then we dismantled their army, stole their gold, occupied them and installed an inept, eternally-corrupt government that they can NEVER legally vote away.

Hang on a minute, Jens… someone’s calling on the Coalition of Evil cell phone. Oh, it’s Iran inviting us to come on in. They’re begging for some good old fashioned Coalition liberation. Funny, the guy is speaking english and sounds a lot like Pompeo. Maybe it’s just me.

Iraqi’s are just simply to corrupt and dumb to know whats good for them!

Example, Germany after 1945 had suffered massive damage, and yet by the 50s was an economy on a stellar trajectory

Example, imperial Japan after 1945 had suffered massive damage, plus two atomic weapons attack, and yet by the 50s was on economy on a stellar trajectory

So why is it the stupid Iraqi’s haven’t managed to do anything economically?

Bob

‘The Coalision (sic) are called in and help them improve their military capabilities.’

Nice try – but who called them in and when exactly?

Err, 2003? When the US and its vassals aggressively attacked and invaded Iraq? Then, when under military occupation, when a US civilian ‘administrator of Iraq’ Paul Bremmer literally dissolved and sacked the the entire Iraqi army corps? That is not ‘improving’ Iraq’s military, that was series of US political and military actions with intent to create a perennially weakened and dependent Iraqi state.

Joe Stevens

They already have a few Pantsirs.

This better be part of a larger operation. Soleimani was worth a lot more than a single drone.

$3.2 million Each ScanEagle system costs US$3.2 million (2006). A complete system comprises four air vehicles or AVs, a ground control station, remote video terminal, and the Skyhook launch and recovery system.

Jens Holm

Nice little fellow.

Peter Jennings

It’s a Boeing, so no surprise there. Maybe they should make bombs instead.

Tudor Miron

Good riddance.
