Montenegro supported the admission of Kosovo to UNESCO

The proposal was adopted by the majority, for the Albanian initiative 27 countries voted, 14 voted against and 14 were abstained.

As Ivica Dačić, Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated, countries that voted for Albanian initiative are: Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Belize, the United Kingdom, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Italy, Kuwait, Macedonia, Germany, Pakistan , Saint Kitts and Nevis, the US, Thailand, Togo, United Arab Emirates, France, Netherlands, Montenegro, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
Countries that were against are: Argentina, Angola, Brazil, Ecuador, Ethiopia, India, China, Cuba, Morocco, Mexico, Namibia, Nigeria, Russia and Spain. Dačić expressed gratitude for these countries.
14 countries were abstained: Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique, Mali, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Trinidad and Tobago and Uganda.
Ivica Dačić added that ever since the beginning “the ratio of the countries for and against are not favorable for us”, but he stressed that five countries did abstained, although they recognized Kosovo (Japan, South Korea, Malawi, Egypt and Papua New Guinea ). Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dačić said at the press conference that the result in Paris are better than everyone expected.
Dačić was asked to comment on decision of Podgorica and Skopje to vote yes: “Of course we are disappointed by their stance, but we are not surprised”
