During a month of military operations in Ukraine, the Russian Army took control of a significant part of the country and apparently completed the first stage of the operation. In a way i agree and also feel sorry for Ukrainian people. But Russia had it’s own reasons too, Ukraine was armed to the teeth by west with one sole purpose – to retake Donbass by force. Crimea i think has been out of the question and hopes for Kiev. Ukraine had Minsk 1 and Minsk 2 on the table, which were not perfect deals for either side but still offered Ukraine a chance to keep those territories as a part of Ukraine.
Sadly US + NATO gave Ukraine green light to violate and delay Minsk agreements, and in meanwhile they prepared Ukraine for military solution. So we ended with NATO – Russia proxy war now, which would start anyway i think, Russia just used moment of surprise and started conflict few days before Ukraine would march on Donbass.

There were two main objectives named, as far as I understand: 1. protect the Donbas, and 2. disable the Kiev puppet regime from supplying more troops and ammo to conquer the Donbas, ie, root out the problem. For the latter, they need to capture Kiev, amongst other things.

Any update on the casualty counts for the different sides?
I saw the update from Russia with almost 10,000 dead and over 16,000 injured earlier this week.
I haven’t seen anything from DPR and separatists about losses on their side.
Do they account for the difference in what Russia is reporting and what Ukraine is reporting for losses ~15,000? Meaning that there have been 5000 lost from the Donbas region.

I don’t usually follow Russia’s involvement in conflicts, but like the US released a number very quickly after losses and a list of the KIA soldiers’ names every week during Iraq and Afghanistan after they have had a chance to notify the families.
Does Russia do something similar with their involvement in Syria or other places or would this kind of thing cause them to come up with a new data release schedule.
The numbers I am seeing from Ukrainian and western sources are shockingly high but there isn’t really much correction of the record coming from Russia, DPR, or LPR either. If that kind of thing had been released and pulled back by a US news source, the rest of the press corps would be hounding officials for the real numbers.

In the US, if there was a battle in a war I am used to seeing a report of there was a fire fight in such-and-such a city, a transport helicopter with X marines went down and they have been med-evaced but are in critical condition. Then over the next few days, pentagon or white house would give updates either in press conferences or press releases. If any of them died, they would give the number and then a few weeks or months later release the names.
I was just inquiring if Russia, DPR, or LPR had a similar reporting procedure for transparency because if that number Monday wasn’t accurate, their silence since Putin disclosed 500 dead 3 weeks ago makes us assume the numbers coming from other sources might be accurate.

I’m not so sure that time is on Russia’s side as Ukraine is getting more and more weapons daily from NATO, including drones. In contrast, I am not so sure if Russia can source all the components for the more advanced weapon systems like cruise missiles etc. as Russia is under sanctions. Additionally, I think sooner, or later NATO will get even more involved than they are now. This is evident by the ‘initiatives’ that they are floating (fighter jets, ‘peacekeepers’). I think time would be on Russia’s side if they could find a way to disrupt NATO supply lines into Ukraine.
