More Russian Airstrikes Hit ISIS Hideouts In Syria’s Central Region

On January 15, more than 12 Russian airstrikes hit Syria’s central region where ISIS cells are still presented and active.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Russian airstrikes targeted hideout of the terrorists group in the following areas:

  • The outskirts of the town of al-Resafa in the southern countryside of Raqqa;
  • The desert of Deir Ezzor which lays along the governorate’s western countryside.

A day earlier, Russian warplanes carried out at least eight airstrikes on hideouts near al-Resafa. The Syrian Arab Army and other pro-government formations also kicked off a combing operation near the town of al-Bukamal in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

The pressure mounted by Syrian government forces and their allies have apparently forced ISIS cells to temporary halt their operations. The last two days didn’t witness any attack by the terrorist group.

ISIS insurgency in central Syria will not likely end anytime soon. However, the security situation in the region will improve if the current pressure on the terrorist group is maintained.
