Since the last escalation of violence in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, the number of detentions has increased dramatically.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society informed that most of the children who are detained in Israeli jails had been arrested since the beginning of October. According to a Rights group, there are about 400 children from 13 to 17 years old currently imprisoned.
It has also been informed that some of the released are kept in domiciliary arrest due to security reasons.
Many of the children who are captive in Israeli prisons and interrogation centers are kept there with no food or water while being subject of tortures, verbal and physical coercion techniques to get confessions from them, the Rights organization informed.
Besides children about 7000 Palestinians are currently in Israeli prisons, almost 540 of them are being held without trial under the so-called administrative detention which is a kind of custody without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed indefinitely.
Since the beginning of the Israeli crackdown on the protests, about 90 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more are reported injured.
