On October 17, the towns of al-Ghariyah al-Sharqiyah, al-Ghariyah al-Gharbiyah and Khirbet Ghazaleh joined the Russian-sponsored reconciliation process in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Daraa.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) established a reconciliation center in al-Ghariyah al-Gharbiyah, where dozens of wanted gunmen from the three towns will hand over their weapons and settle their legal status. The Russian Military Police is present in the center to monitor the process.

Meanwhile, the SAA launched a combing operation in the town of al-Jeezah, which joined the reconciliation process earlier this week.

The aim of the operation is to uncover and remove any remaining war debris or dangerous materials in order to restore normal life in the town.

The Russian-sponsored reconciliation process has been a major success. So far, thousands of wanted gunmen have handed over their weapons and settled their legal status. Many of them will be servicing in the ranks of the SAA from now on.

More towns in the eastern Daraa countryside will likely join the reconciliation process before the end of October. This part of Daraa is especially important for Syrian authorities as it shares a long border line with Jordan.
