Moscow, Ankara Officially Agree to Coordinate Airstrikes Against Terrorists in Syria

Russian and Turkish military officials have signed a memorandum on combat flight safety during missions and agreed to coordinate airstrikes against terrorists in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on January 12.

“The memorandum establishes mechanisms of coordination and interaction between Russian and Turkish aircraft during airstrikes against terrorist targets, as well as measures aimed at preventing flight incidents involving aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles in Syrian airspace,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Media reports that Russian warplanes deliver airstrikes assisting Turkish forces battling against ISIS terrorists near the Syrian town of al-Bab had been appearing since December 2016. Today this coordination became confirmed.
