Lt. Gen. Alexander Zhuravlev was appointed as the new commander of the Russian forces in Syria, Interfax reported on July 21, citing an anonymous source. Zhuravlev replaced Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov.
According to the report, the appointment took place after Alexander Dvornikov had been appointed commander of Russia’s Southern Military District.
