A 21yo man named as Armin Alibasic, suspected of being an ISIS member, was detained in the Serbian city of Novi Pazar, media reported on January 16 morning. Security forces also seized a cache of weapons and explosives, which the suspect reportedly possessed.
Reports says that he was preparing a terrorist attack at the time of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the country.
The Russian President was “a target for terrorists because of the war that Russia carries against ISIS,” a quote atributed to a source in the Serbian intelligence agency BIA says. “Our forces together with Russian colleagues are well prepared and keep the situation under control, and the president of Russian Federation will be totally safe.”
Later an “informed source” told Sputniknews Serbia that the person was involved in a plot to assasinate Putin.
