The last few days of battle for Deir Ezzor were marked by mutliple fake news reports about Syrian aircraft allegedly downed by ISIS near Deir Ezzor city.
On September 17, media activists and media outlets supporting the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as well as the so-called moderate opposition (sic) reported that ISIS “likely” downed a Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) warplane. The incident allegedly took place near Deir Ezzor on September 16. No photos of the crash site have been provided.

However, the photo posted by the SOHR was made in Libya in 2016 (LINK).
A smoke in the photo below is likely a result of an air or artillery strike:

On September 18, pro-SDF as well as pro-opposition media outlets and activists reported that a helicotper of the SAAF was downded on the western bank of the Euphrates River, near Deir Ezzor city. No photos or videos confirming the claims have been provided.
Furthermore, the both claims have not been reported by the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq.
It’s interesting to note that these reports started appearing after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies broke the ISIS defense near Deir Ezzor city and Deir Ezzor Airport and continued their advance against the terrorist group inside the Deir Ezzor countryside. The September 18 report took place following first reports that government forces crossed to the western bank of the Euphrates.
Considering a questionable situation over the alleged Russian airstrike on the SDF north of Deir Ezzor [the Russian military denies it] on September 16, it’s easy to suggest that we could observe a media campaign aimed at undermining the anti-ISIS effort of the Syrian-Iranian-Russian coalition in the Deir Ezzor countryside.
The media campaign consists of 3 parts:
- Fake news about losses of Syrian forces and their allies [reports about “killed Russian servicemen” expected soon];
- Accusations of civilian casualties and hostile actions towards “forces of the democracy” allegedly made by Syria, Russia or Iran;
- Statements and claims by the SDF that the US-backed force has a right to “legitimate defense” from the SAA and its allies on the western bank of the Euphrates [after claims that the SDF would not allow government forces to corss the river].
This media campaign is ongoing amid the behind the scene negotiations between the US and Russia over a possible division of spheres of responsibility in Deir Ezzor province. The US-led coalition likely believes that media accusations should help it to achieve own goals.
The stakes for Syria are too high. No compromises here and no concessions. Syria belongs to the Syrian people not the invading and occupation Western colonial powers and their Kurdish slaves. It is obvious that the Americans are shooting down Syrian government aircraft. ISIS do not have the capability. Russia should prove it is a true ally of Suria and provide backup to the advancing Syrian government forces by proving air cover by its formodable SU35 fighter aircraft. The campaign for the liberation of the Eastern banks of Deir Ezzur by the Syrian government troops need to be stepped up whatever the losses. Syria is fighting for its own survival as an independent and sovereign state. All forces need to be concentrated at the Deir Ezzur front. The Syrian oil and gas fields need to be under Syrian government control for the Syrian people not under US control to be looted for its own benefit. This is a defining moment for both the Russian and Syrian government forces to face Western aggression and illegal occupation of Syrian sovereign land.
Wait a second… “It is obvious that Americans are shooting down” :) The only obvious thing here is that some media outlets (one of them is that mighty SOHR :D) are saying something. The rest (that a plane or a helicopter is downed) is very questionable. I agree that Surya should stay strong and I think that Russia already proved who’s the real friend of Surya but lets not jump the gun on fake news BS :)

I think Russia just recently sent in a few squadrons of Mig-29 Fulcrums to help secure the Syrian airspace, so that should help deter possible threats from the skies. If the SU-57’s were ready I think that would definitely do the trick.
It is quite obvious by now that Ru has a dual role in Sy; one is preventing suicidals from taking over, the second is preventing Ayran from gaining a larger foot hold in Sy.
It is also becoming quite obvious that yellow flags are a strong fit for a regional proxy with role of destabilizing, focusing on Ayran. So any risky, over the top maneuvers, such as getting into open conflict, must be out of question in the short term. It would largely ruin any ongoing prep for “Persian spring”.
Demanding discussions is wise, though. It buys time and gives a chance to sell Ru another rotten deal. Nevertheless, there is always the possibility of ussof air landing into the fields. The more saa beats up on dash, the bigger the chance for this outcome.
