On June 13, the leader of the Yamina party, Naftali Bennett, took the oath of office at a meeting of the Knesset as Prime Minister of Israel. Lapid, a centrist leader, will be an alternate prime minister in rotation and will replace Bennett after his term expires.
Previously, MP Mickey Levy, representing the Yesh Atid party, was elected the new speaker of the Knesset. Israeli lawmakers passed a vote of confidence for a coalition government, ending Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year hold on power.
“67 deputies [out of 120] voted for Mickey Levy, he becomes the new speaker of the Knesset,” said outgoing Likud spokesman Benjamin Netanyahu Yariv Levin.
Mr. Levy, 69, is a former police officer who commanded police units in Jerusalem during the second intifada. He later served as a police attaché at the Israeli Embassy in Washington. After entering politics with Yesh Atid in 2013, he was deputy finance minister, serving under Mr. Lapid.

Levy began a roll-call vote on the approval of the 36th Israeli government, formed by the leaders of the Yesh Atid parties Yair Lapid and Yamina Naftali Bennett after the March 23 elections.
On June 2, the leader of the Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, informed Israeli President that he had formed a coalition following the March 23 elections. Eight parties entered the government: Yesh Atid Lapida, Yamina Naftali Bennett, Kahol-Lavan Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Our Home is Israel Avigdor Lieberman, New Hope, leftist parties Labor, Meretz ” and the Arabic ” Raam “.

This is a very fragile coalition, and Bennet is viewed as having betrayed his ultra-national constituents by joining with an arab party. Netanyahu is still the head of the opposition and the largest party in the Knesset. If you think you’ve seen the last of Netanyahu, you don’t know what a cutthroat son of a bitch he is. Expect him to launch all manner of social strife within Israel and mark my words: He will regain leadership.
