Four Turkish-backed militants were killed and another was injured when the checkpoint they were manning came under attack early on January 2.
The checkpoint, that’s located in the southern part of Afrin in the northern Aleppo countryside, was attacked by several gunmen.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the killed militants were fighting in the ranks of the Mu’tasim Division. The group is a member of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), that took part in the recent attack on Kurdish forces in northeast Syria.
The attack was likely carried out by the Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF). Their cells raided a post of the Turkish-backed Hamza Division in southern Afrin a day earlier. Two militants were killed and three other were injured in the attack.
In the last three months, the ALF stepped up its attacks in Afrin and other Turkish-occupied areas in northern Aleppo. Dozens of Turkish-backed militants were killed or in injured in the group’s attacks.

Incorrect, they need to say dozens of dozens, the casualty rates for the Turkish proxies is really in the hundreds now, probably closer to several hundreds, and that’s not even mentioning nearly a dozen regular Turkish troops killed and even more injured. But the ALF have been going hard since the start of the year, that’s when they first started ramping up hostilities, so Turkish proxy casualty rates since january would be closer to a thousand dead and even more wounded, as well as dozens of regular Turkish troops killed and wounded. Over the last 3 months I don’t think there’s been even one death reported on the ALF side, and no captures of ALF personnel either, so the ALF are proving they’re more than just a thorn in Erdogan’s foot, they’re more like a stake poked through his thigh.
