An armed drones swarm attacked the Russian Hmeimim airbase south of the Syrian coastal governroate of Lattakia in the early hours of June 26.
Local sources said that Russian air defense systems engaged several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which had approached the airbase. All the hostile UAVs were reportedly shot down away from the airbase, causing no losses what so ever.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), this was the first UAV attack on Hmeimim airbase in more than a month. The last such attack took place in the 18th of last May.
Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former branch of al-Qaeda, is believed to be responsible for these attacks. The terrorist group is the only side with enough financial and military resources to develop and operate such armed UAVs.
The Russian Aerospace Forces will likely step up its aerial operations over Idlib and its surroundings in response to the attack. Russian forces could also support a new ground push by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
As long as Idlib and the rest of northwest Syria remain in the hands of Turkish forces, attacks like these’ll only intensify. Get the Turks out of Syrian territory, problem solved.
Russia won’t allow SAA to make a full offensive to recover Idlib.
It was said last year, by the Israeli government, that the war in Syria will continue for at least seven years. That means until 2025.
As SAA took seven years to lose and regain a few small areas around the Lebanese border, Damascus and the mostly empty regions of DEZ, Badiya and south east, this could well be true.
There comes a point when a population has had enough. Imo that point is near in many parts of Syria. Problem is, dictators like Assad cannot just go. They committed so many crimes, their victims will kill him and all of their families and all their supporters. So they cannot quit and will fight for their lives. In the end, they will be so weak, they will be taken over and absorbed by an external party. The present fighting is over who that party will be.

SAA withdrawal finally result in Erdogan terrorists attacking Russian base.
Given that HTS capabilities re UAV’s seem to be improving, this make it more urgent for Russia to have SAA push back HTS at lest some additional 20 kms and, if possible, more.
HTS only has to succeed once to inflict costly damages. Maybe PKK should copy this HTS tactic to attack turkish airbases. It should give them much satisfaction to drop some bombs too. The turks deserve the best from PKK.

What nonsense, it should really say HTS couldn’t possibly be responsible for these attacks because they DON’T really have the financial resources or support capabilities to do it, it’s much more likely to be members of the FSA/NFL/SLF who were actually responsible for these attacks. Then they should show us pictures of the burnt out ancient relics that HTS has been using to fight against the SAA [just old confiscated SAA vehicles and equipment], and then compare them to the shinly new grad rocket launchers, armoured fighting vehicles, heavy mortars, MANPADS [and spanking new uniforms] Turkey’s been supplying to the FSA/NFL/SLF, it should then be obvious to everyone who really is and isn’t the most cashed up rebel group. It seems HTS has become everyone’s favourite scapegoat lately, now it’s not just Erdogan blaming HTS for everything his own FSA/NFL/SLF fighters do, Putin also blames HTS for everything Erdogan’s FSA/NFL/SLF do too. Eventually one of those drones will get past the Russian AA defence systems and make it to the base, and if it does and it actually kills Russian servicemen, the blood will rightfully be on Putin’s and Erdogan’s hands. Putin needs to get rid of the rebels altogether to stop the drone attacks, that’s the only way to permanently stop them.
