On March 12 morning, a booby-trapped car exploded in the Turkish-occupied part of the northern countryside of Syria’s al-Hasakah.
According to the SMART News Agency, the bombing targeted a checkpoint in the outskirt of the town of Tell Halaf. The checkpoint was manned by personnel of the so-called Free Police, a law enforcement body backed by Turkey.
“Two police men were killed and two others were injured in the car bomb explosion,” sources in the Turkish-sponsored Syrian Interim Government told the agency.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said other Turkish-backed militants were also killed in the explosion. According to the stat-run agency, many injured militants were transported to Turkey to receive treatment.
Last week, a similar car bomb attack targeted a checkpoint in the Turkish-occupied town of Hamam al-Turkman in the northern Raqqa countryside. Three Turkish service members were allegedly killed as a result of the attack.
The Turkish-occupied part of northeast Syria witnessed a series of bombings over the last few months. Kurdish forces, mainly the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), were held responsible for many of these attacks. However, there is no clear evidence supporting these accusations.
