On May 11, Russian journalist Oleg Blokhin released new photos showing Russian military advisers supporting the ongoing Syrian Arab Army (SAA) operation in northern Hama.
In the photos, the Russian advisers can be seen employing a 2B11 2S12 Sani 120mm heavy mortar, an AGS-17 40mm automatic grenade launcher and loading a Konkurs anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launcher.
According to some local observers, these advisors are likely private military contractors (PMCs), not personnel of regular Russian military units. The advisors’ uniforms and older military equipment support these claims.
The Russian military is actively supporting the SAA military operation in northern Hama. The operation was launched earlier this month in response to the repeated rocket attacks by terrorist groups. The attacks targeted civilian areas in northern Hama and the Russian Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast.
