The city of Toretsk (Dzerzhinsk) is inflamed by heavy battles. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue active assault operations in the center and are storming the strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine deployed in the local mines.
On December 2nd, the military sources reported the beginning of the Russian assault on the waste piles of the Central mine located on the southwestern outskirts of Toretsk. According to preliminary reports from the front, the both southern and western piles came under Russian control. There are only 1200 meters left between Russian military positions in the area of the southern pile and the village of Shcherbinovka located west of Toretsk.
If Russian control of the piles is confirmed, Ukrainian defense on the territory of the entire mine will be largely weakened and the entire line of Ukrainian defense on the western outskirts of Toretsk may collapse in the near future.
If Ukrainian counterattacks are repelled in the area of the captured piles, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will heavy to retreat from a large area southwest of Toretsk because their military positions came under close fire control of Russian forces. Ukrainian forces in the areas southwest of Toretsk may also be threatened with encirclement.
