On August 23, the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes against a hideout of ISIS cells near the city of Tuz Khurma in the central province of Saladin.
In a statement, the official Security Media Cell said that the pinpoint strikes killed a number of terrorists who were present at the hideout, which was described as a cave in Mount Garaj in the outskirts of Tuz Khurma.
The IQAF released footage of the airstrikes, which were carried out by F-16IQ fighter jets armed with GBU-12 Paveway II precision-guided bombs.
The IQAF regularly targets ISIS hideouts in the western, northern, central and eastern regions of Iraq, where the group’s cells are still active.
A series of Iraqi airstrikes destroyed a hideout of ISIS cells in Wadi al-Chai, a valley located in the southern part of the northern province of Kirkuk, on August 15. The next day, August 16, a second series of airstrikes hit a hideout of the group to the west of Tuz Khurma. At least six terrorists were killed in the airstrikes.
Iraq announced the defeat of ISIS in 2017. However, the terrorist groups continue to wage an insurgency against government forces.
