In the late hours of February 13, a new wave of Israeli airstrikes targeted the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The airstrikes reportedly targeted several areas around the Damascus International Airport as well as the town of al-Ghasulah in the capital’s Eastern Ghouta Region. Large explosions were reported in these areas.
A military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that Syrian air-defense systems intercepted some of the Israeli missiles, which came from the southern direction.
“At 23:45 hours on Thursday, 2/13/2020 hostile missiles coming from the occupied Golan were detected, our air defense systems immediately dealt with them, downing a number of hostile missiles before reaching their targets,” the source said.
The state-run news agency released several videos allegedly showing the interception of many Israeli missiles by the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF)
Earlier this month, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out a similar wave of airstrikes on Damascus and the country’s southern region. The large attack threatened a civilian airliner that was about to land in the Damascus International Airport.
The recent increase in Israeli attacks on Syria coincides with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) advance in the country’s northwestern region, where al-Qaeda-affiliated groups are active.

If we can get Iran to leave Syria without fighting the SAA it would be the best and I would welcome it. But Iranian officers have already integrated deep into the SAA units, and they serve Iran’s interests not Syria. They actively give shelter to Iranian proxies in SAA bases closer to the Golan Heights, and that is something no Israeli IDF commander or politician can swallow. If they are forced to leave by Russia after the Idlib battle and return back to Iran, we won’t have to strike anymore and return back to 2011.

And in that regard, it was to be expected from Tehran to finally intervene when foreign-supported unrest started to gravely erode its stability past a critical threshold. F-35 can be detected by early warnign radars from 100 miles away but only shot down a lot closer since the radars aren’t powerful or AESA in nature. the engagement radar of the s400 is very weak and uses an old microprocessor compared to THAAD/Patriot-PAC4-David’s Sling.

It’s SEAD technique specialized for old, incapable air defenses.
The deployment of 24 S-300 launchers around Damascus protected by Tor-M1 and SA-22 Pantsir will bring in the modern long range early warning radars such as the 3D AESA 46N6E, 96L6E which have been upgraded and currently in use by Russia, China, India, Algeria, and Egypt. If you want to destroy them, you’ll have to destroy all 24 of them guarded by Tor, BUK, Pantsir. You lost an F-16I to an S-200, much worse will happen if you attempt to target an S-300.
