On August 22, a new wave of intense Russian airstrikes targeted the remaining ISIS terrorists in the central region of Syria.
Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces bombed hideouts of ISIS in the Homs desert, which lays between eastern Homs and western Raqqa. A day earlier, a similar wave of airstrikes targeted the region.
These airstrikes appear to be a response to the group’s recent attack on Russian troops near the Homs desert. A major general was killed and two service members were injured.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Syrian Arab Army and its allies are now preparing to launch a large-scale military operation to eliminate ISIS remnants in the Homs desert.
“Regime forces, with the support of the Russians, are preparing to launch a large campaign to target the remnants of the Islamic State [ISIS] organization in the Syrian desert,” the monitoring group said in a new report.
Hundreds of ISIS terrorists are taking shelter in the Homs desert. These terrorists are reportedly receiving support from U.S.-backed fighters in the nearby area of al-Tanaf.
A serious military operation by the Syrian military and its allies can put an end to ISIS threat in the Homs desert as well as in other parts of central Syria.

They aren’t hiding in underground tunnels but rather in smaller villages and mountains which can be bombed by regular munition and doesn’t require bunker buster bombs.
It does for some armchair generals they would bunker baster bomb even Bedouin tent, let alone some shack that would call “fortress” to add some drama.
