New Wave of Russian Strikes Reached Romania

On December 15, Ukraine came under another massive attack of Russian drones and missiles. At night, Russian drones hit Snigirevka, an important logistics hub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region, and the Danube ports of Reni and Izmail in the Odessa region. In the afternoon Russian missiles struck at the Starokonstantinov airfield in the Khmelnitsk region. Explosions were reported in the area of Zhulyani airfield in Kyiv and in the Zhitomir region. The Ukrainian military refused to confirm the damage.

As a result of today’s attacks, not only Ukrainian territory was damaged. The Romanian Defense Ministry claimed that during the night strikes in the Odessa region, one of the Russian kamikaze drones Geran-2 fell and exploded on the Romanian territory. The drone was supposedly shot down by Ukrainian air defense. The UAV reportedly left a 1.5-meter-deep crater near the village of Grindu, which is located about 8 kilometers from the Ukrainian port of Reni.

Damage in the Odessa region:

According to the statement of the Romanian Ministry of Defense, during the attack of Russian drones on the port infrastructure of Ukraine, F-16 and Eurofighter Typhoon fighters were lifted into the air.

The Romanians reported the incident to the NATO command. The Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador.

This is not the first ‘unintentional fall’ of Russian Gerans in Romania. According to Bucharest, this was the fourth such incident. NATO does not consider the drone crash to be an “attack” on one of the alliance’s countries.
