New Wave Of Strikes Hit Odessa And Kiev Following Attacks On Russian Territory (Videos, Photos)

Early on September 6, a series of explosions were reported near a strategic port in the southern Ukrainian region of Odessa.

Ukrainian sources reported that the Russian military attacked the port of Reni and the city of Kilia in the Izmail district with missiles and drones. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not confirmed or denied these claims yet.

Regional Governor Oleg Kiper said that the attack on Odessa lasted for three hours. According to him, administrative buildings and port infrastructure were damaged.

“Damage and fires were reported in several populated areas. Port infrastructure was also damaged,” the official said on his Telegram channel, without providing any further details.

Later on in the morning, at least five explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and its outskirts, according to TASS.

“Around 05:50 a.m. Moscow time, explosions began in Kiev, there were at least five of them,” one eyewitness told the Russian news agency.

An air raid alert Stayed on for almost two hours. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klichko cautioned that air defense systems were operating and urged residents to remain in shelters.

The Ukrainian Air Force claimed later that its air defenses had intercepted 23 out of the 33 air weapons Russia launched overnight. The weapons included 25 Geran-1/2 suicide drones, seven Kh-101 cruise missiles and one Iskander ballistic missile, it said.

The strikes were possibly launched in response to recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. In the early morning, the Russian MoD announced that a suicide drone was shot down over the Bryansk region.

“Air defense troops of the Russian Defense Ministry have thwarted an attack by Ukrainian terrorists. A fixed-wing drone was shot down above the Navlinsky district,” governor Alexander Bogomaz wrote later on Telegram, noting that there were no casualties or material losses.

In addition, Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that the region was targeted with more than 40 shells over the past day.

“In the Graivoronsky district, the enemy fired 14 mortar shells at the village of Kozinka. Unfortunately, one man died: he received injuries incompatible with life and passed away before the ambulance’s arrival. A woman was wounded: she received a mine blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her thighs. She has been taken to the hospital and is now receiving all necessary medical assistance,” Gladkov said on Telegram.

The Russian military also shot down a Ukrainian drone that attacked a gas pipeline in the Graivoronsky district. A second drone dropped shrapnel munition from a drone on Solntsevka and Klimovoye.

Another armed quadcopter drone was downed in the Valuisky district’s Logachevka, a suicide drone was intercepted over Verigovka.

In the Volokonovsky district, Kiev forces shelled Stariy with mortars three times. And in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district, two artillery shells hit the outskirts of Staroselye and six others landed near Kolotilovka. The outskirts of Vyazovoye was also shelled four times.

“As a result [of the attack on Vyazovoye], a power line was damaged. It has been restored,” the governor noted.

Meanwhile in the Shebekinsky district, Kiev forces fired seven mortar shells at Novaya Tavolzhanka, three mortar shells at Sereda and Murom each and one mortar shell at Mariyno. No losses were reported there, however.

Ukraine escalated its attack on Russian territory in recent weeks to make up for the failure of its counteroffensive which entered its fourth month. Despite sustaining heavy human and material losses, Kiev forces have so far failed to break through Russian defenses in any direction.

The Russian military has been responding to Ukrainian attacks by launching strikes with precision-guided missiles and drones mainly against bases of Kiev forces and military industrial facilities.
