On October 25, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov revealed that Russia, Turkey and Iran will hold the next round of Astana talks on the Syrian crisis in the period between late November and Early December.

“As the Astana process guarantor states have stated that they are intended in holding the next meeting on the peaceful settlement in Syria as part of this format in Astana. The time and the agenda will be communicated to you after we receive the final information from the guarantor states … According to the preliminary information, [the meeting may be held] in late November-early December,” Abdrakhmanov told reporters, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

Abdrakhmanov also said that the three states are looking to speed up the political process. According to the Kazakh minister, one way to do so will be forming the committee tasked with discussing the Syrian constitution.

A day earlier, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov proposed a new summit on Syria between the presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran in the framework of the Astana talks.

“The Astana format is the most objective structure for moving forward on all tracks to overcome the Syrian crisis,” Lavrov said after meeting his Turkish and Iranian counterparts, according to the Iranian news agency Tansim.

Russia, Turkey and Iran appear to be very serious about launching a political process in Syria in coordination with the U.N. However, the radical part of “the Syrian opposition” and the U.S. will likely work to sabotage these efforts as they done with every peaceful initiative during the last seven years.
