On March 20, US President Donald Trump called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to congratulate with his election victory. Throughout the telephone conversation, Trump proposed Putin to have a meeting, the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov revealed on April 2.
Answering the question about the date of this meeting, the presidential aide said “it wasn’t discussed”. “This is a quite interesting and positive idea,” he added.
Following Ushakov’s statement, the White House press secretary Sarah Sanders cleared up that the meeting could be held in “the not-too-distant future”.
“As the President himself confirmed on March 20, hours after his last call with President Putin, the two had discussed a bilateral meeting in the not-too-distant future at a number of potential venues, including the White House. We have nothing further to add at this time,” Sanders said.
The last meeting of Putin and Trump occurred on July 7, 2017 at the Group of 20 summit in Germany. The presidents discussed tensioned relations between Russia and the USA, the conflict in Syria and Ukraine, other important issues. According to Trump, the rendez-vous was held in a “tremendous” atmosphere during two hours. However, the relations between these countries remained complicated.
If the aforementioned meeting between Trump and Putin takes place, two global powers will have an additional chance to find common points in existing difficult situation.
Well I very much hope they don’t meet at the White House. I want President Putin to have a little more pride than that. He should not go out of his way to visit Trump, and for him to do so is demeaning. Let the meeting be on neutral territory if it must take place at all.
Kosygin, did something similar in visiting Johnson. I don’t want to see Russia lowering itself yet again.
What is there to talk about. Give them a list of ” don’t you ever..” or.. we start target practice.
Its the rest of the world that fears a russia us alliance. Its unbeatable. Its been that way since the czar and lincoln got close and discussed a rail line thru alaska. The brits(and french) saw a threat to their global empires and have been fighting since to keep them at odds.
