On December 16, government supporters intercepted another convoy of the US-led coalition in the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, locals from the towns of al-Damkhiya and Abu Thwail in the northern al-Hasakah countryside intercepted the convoy, which consisted of five armored vehicle, when it attempted to pass through al-Damkhyah checkpoint. The convoy was eventually forced to retreat.

“As soon as it reached the outskirts of the town of al-Damkhiya, the residents threw stones at the occupation’s armored vehicles, forcing it to retreat and leave,” a local source told the stat-run news agency.

The convoy was reportedly escorted by a unit of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the US-led coalition’s main proxy in northeastern Syria.

This was not the first such confrontation this year. In the last few weeks, locals, pro-government fighters and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) personnel in in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah intercepted several convoys of the US-led coalition.

On December 7, SAA soldiers and local government supporters intercepted a convoy that attempted to pass through the town of al-Salihiyah. On December 11, government supporters intercepted another convoy near the town of al-Matiniyah. On December 14, SAA soldiers intercepted a convoy on Tell al-Dahab checkpoint.

The SAA and government supporters are clearly trying to restrict the movement of the US-led coalition in northeastern Syria, mainly near the town of al-Qamishli in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.
