Late on July 5, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled a new attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies on its positions in the northern Hama countryside.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the terrorist group and its allies used heavy weapons, and even suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (SVBIEDs) in the failed attack, which targeted military positions near the town of al-Hamameyat.
“Army units engaged in heavy clashes with the terrorists who were attempting to break through [the army’s defenses] with suicide attackers and VBIEDs, which were destroyed before they manage to reach their targets,” the agency’s reporter in Hama said.
Several militants were reportedly killed and injured in the attack, while the rest withdrew back to their positions in the towns of Tell Saker, Hobait, Jibeen, Kafr Zita and al-Arbaaine.
The situation in northern Hama will likely escalate further in the upcoming few hours, as HTS and its allies are clearly determined to continue their attacks in the region
