NSA’s failure on counter-terrorism campaign

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul stated that the US National Security Agency’s program to collect metadata of American citizen’s phones failed to halt terror attacks or detain criminals as it has been claimed by US authorities.

After 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, the American government authorized the collection of US citizens phone record by means of the so-called Patriot Act’s Section 215 to get relevant information for counter-terrorism investigations.

NSA’s spying activities’ huge scale showed up on 2013, when Edward Snowden, former  contractor of the agency revealed a big amount of classified documents that disclosed not only espionage on regular citizens, but also on political leaders all over the world.

On November 29th, the NSA announced their decision to stop the data collection.
