Officers Of Syrian Brigade Threatened By Israel Are Being Assassinated

At least four officers from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) 112th Mechanized Brigade, which was threatened by Israel more than once, have been reportedly assassinated since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip.

The officers were all targeted in the southern governorates of Daraa and al-Qunitra, where the brigade’s positions are mainly located.

The first assassination took place on November 15, a little over a month after the Palestinian Hamas Movement launched its surprise attack from Gaza against Israel which led to the war. First Lieutenant Muhammad Ibrahim was traveling in a car near the town of al-Sukkariyah in the western Daraa countryside when he was killed by an explosive device. A soldier from the brigade was also killed in the attack.

On November 17, unknown gunmen targeted another vehicle of the brigade near the town of Nawa in the western Daraa countryside, killing Major Qais Ismail and a warrant officer.

Later on January 8, the dead body of Captain Imad Youssef was found near Nawa. He was reportedly abducted, tortured then executed by unknown gunmen.

The latest assassination was on February 27. Brigadier General Ramadan Dhawa, commander of the brigade’s 271st Battalion, was killed when his vehicle was struck by an explosive device on al-Nasiriyah-Ghadeer al-Bustan road in the southern Daraa countryside. He was the most senior officer of the brigade to lose his life in the assassination wave.

Israel threatened the 112th Mechanized Brigade and its officers more than once in recent years, usually delivering warnings in leaflets dropped over Daraa and al-Qunitra.

Before the war in Gaza, the Israeli military accused the brigade’s officers of cooperating with Lebanon’s Hezbollah. After the outbreak of the war, the brigade was held responsible for rocket attacks that targeted the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Hezbollah, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad are thought to be responsible for the attacks.

Israeli strikes hit several positions of the brigade in Daraa on November 12, just days before the first officer was assassinated.

So far, no side has claimed the attacks on the officers of the 112th Mechanized Brigade. Although terrorist groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham are known to be active in the areas where the assassinations took place, it is more likely that the Israeli intelligence was responsible.

It is also possible that the recent assassinations were the result of a direct or an indirect cooperation between these terrorist groups and the Israeli intelligence.

Israel’s intelligence services, including the Mossad, are known to be heavily active in southern Syria. Evidence of their activities surface from time to time.

For example, on February 28, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that the SAA uncovered and destroyed two explosive devices near the town of Saida in the eastern countryside of Daraa. The two devices were camouflaged as rocks in a very professional way. Terrorist group’s in the southern region are not known to use such explosive devices.

While the 112th Mechanized Brigade is not present near Saida, other key formations of the SAA, like the 38th Air Defense Brigade, are deployed there.

The SAA tightened security measures in Daraa and al-Quneitra in recent weeks, intensifying patrols and combing key roads.

Russian forces in Syria also increased their presence in the region. The Russian Military Police established a series of posts along the Golan Heights and helicopters are patrolling the front on a regular basis. While these measures are mainly meant to de-escalate tensions between Syria and Israel, they could also help restrict Israeli intelligence activities.

All in all, the main aim of the assassination wave appears to be to intimidate SAA officers in the southern region. This goal has not yet been achieved, as rockets are still being fired from the region at the Golan Heights, even more frequently than before.

some nations are above any law and other countries are de facto respecting that as a fact because some central bankers of same unspecified faith have long fingers and are pulling the strings. call it double standards…

what they need to do is pay the scumbags back in kind, i said a long time ago the resistance should target high ranking idf officers in israel and their political masters, those scumbags live somewhere in the community find out where and target them.

his opinion of poles, russians and czechs was negative when he was upset and wrote mein kampf in his prison cell. his impression was heavily influenced by his poverty in the austrian capital vienna. he encountered the slums and mafias that ran contrast to the magnificent architecture.

his attempt to enter art school did not make him a bad artist. in order to enter the school, they only permitted a limited number of artists past a certain level. you could reasonably compare it to imperial china’s eight-legged essays.

his views later matured when he got in contact with the leaders of various politicians and movements. his allies were ironically more swarthy than the lighter skinned eastern slavs with lighter coloured hair and eyes. eastern slavs and certain minorities are more related to aryans than western europeans.
