Turkey has renamed the street where the US Embassy is located in Ankara with the name of Turkey’s military operation against US-linked Kurdish militias in the Syrian area of Afrin. Ankara municipal workers already put up a new sign – Olive Branch (Zeytindalı) there.
The Turkish military efforts against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and its female version, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), are a point of tensions between Ankara and Washington. The YPG and the YPJ are a core of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Turkey described the YPG and the YPJ as a terrorist group, the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The PKK is designated terrorist group in the US and a number of the European countries.
This is a good sign that Turkey can’t do more regarding Kurds problem.
This shows that Turkey is acting in colloboration with the US.
This kind of subtle in-jokes is probably lost on the Americans.
Hell St. would have been more appropriate.
