US special forces with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in northern Syria, May 26
The U.S will take “firm and appropriate measures” in response to any attack of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on the “de-escalation zone” in southwestern Syria, the U.S. Department of State warned in an official press release on June 14.
“We reiterate that any Syrian government military actions against the southwest de-escalation zone risk broadening the conflict. We affirm again that the United States will take firm and appropriate measures in response to Syrian government violations in this area,” the U.S. Department of State said in its press release.
The U.S. Department of State added that the “successful” ceasefire in southern Syria, which was imposed in July of 2017, must continue and warned that any attack of the SAA will destabilize the situation there.
“The ceasefire arrangement and southwest de-escalation zone were initiatives by Presidents Trump and Putin to de-escalate the Syrian conflict, save lives, and create conditions for the displaced to safely and voluntarily return to their homes. A military offensive by the Syrian regime into this ceasefire zone would defy these initiatives, which have been a success to date,” the U.S. Department of State said.
Furthermore, the U.S. Department of State called on Russia to use its “diplomatic and military influence over the Syrian government to stop attacks” and to force the SAA to “ cease further military offensives.”
A very similar statement was released by the U.S. Department of State on May 26. However, the U.S. didn’t take any steps against the SAA in southern Syria, back then.
On June 13, Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad revealed that Israel and the U.S. are working against any peaceful solution in southern Syria and vowed to launch a military operation against militants there if they reject a reconciliation agreement.

Time will tell, what decision russia is going to make.If they dont give that air cover and the us airforce attacks and destroys that part of SAA, this war could be over very soon.On the other hand, if SAA attacks with russian air cover , they will win this battle pretty quick due to the battle terrain and their military hardware advantages, and this will again change the momentum a great bit in favor of SAA all around syria BECAUSE of the us/nato retreat and they not engaging russian airforce. Whoever wins this battle will have a big psychlogical advantage in the comming months in syria.

SAA is equipped with it’s air defences which now even forced Israel to fly outside Syria.
Syria has good localised defences and manpads too.
