Heavy clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) are reportedly taking place in the northern Lattakia countryside, despite the recent reports on a temporary ceasefire agreement.
A source in the army’s 4th Division, which leading the military operation in northern Lattakia, told SouthFront on May 18 that the attack is still ongoing, claiming that they received no orders to hold fire.
Earlier, Sputnik reported that a ceasefire agreement that covers Hama, Idlib and Lattakia was reached. A source in the SAA told the Russian news agency that the ceasefire will last for 72 hours only.
The military operation in northern Lattakia is aimed at capturing the strategic town of Kabani, from which rockets are usually launched at the Russian Hmeimim airbase. The airbase was targeted with a new rocket attack right after the announcement of the supposed ceasefire.
While the SAA is still targeting HTS’ positions south of Kabani, it remains unclear if the SAA will continue to advance towards the town.

First of all, those reports were based on what? Sputnik article? Someone told Sputnik reporter something (even that is not a fact) and now we’re talking ceasfire?
I wouldn’t worry about it. If SAA wants a ceasefire I am sure, as they have the upper hand, it is because it suits them. Think about it, HTS declaring a unilateral ceasefire just wouldn’t make sense, would it? If this ceasefire turns out to be correct, I recon it is because SAA has a plan. I for one am looking forward to what it is. The jihadists are shifting and hardening their defences. It makes sense to look for soft openings.
SAA does not want cease fire, Russia wants it to plese Turkey (NATO member).
I think Assad should tear that ceasefire agreement in half and then shove one half of the agreement down both Putin and Erdogan’s throats, actually maybe it should be torn in three pieces, the Iranians also agreed to this worthless piece of paper. Hopefully there’ll be a lot more heavy clashes from the SAA against the rebels, and hopefully the clashes will turn into an all out assault against Erdogan’s rebels as well as HTS. I personally think it’s way overdue and I’m pretty sure President Assad and the SAA feel the same way too, since they’ve never really abided to the ceasefire arrangement anyway. And why should they, it’s not an agreement that suits them in any way shape or form, they’d actually be stupid to abide by it, and they’re not stupid at all, they’re just being held back by a big leash that Putin has tethered around their necks, one they should be trying to chew through if they can.
