Opening Of Strategic Crossing Linking Syria And Iraq Delayed Again

Support SouthFront

The reopening of the strategic al-Qa’im border crossing between Syria and Iraq has been delayed, for the second time this month.

Citing Iraqi officials, the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV reported on September 13 that the crossing will be reopened within ten days.

The reopening of the al-Qa’im crossing was scheduled on September 7. However, it was once again delayed, likely due to the hesitation of the Iraqi Federal Government.

On September 8, Israeli warplanes targeted an alleged Iranian missile base a few kilometers southwest of the crossing. This may further complicate the reopening of the strategic crossing.

The al-Qa’im crossing has been closed for more than five years now. Iraqi government forces liberated the eastern part of Qa’im in November 2017. Within a few days, the Syrian military liberated the western part of the crossing, near the city of al-Bukamal.

The reopening of the strategic crossing will likely boost the trade between Syria and Iraq. This would further damage the U.S. “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran and its allies.

if there is an obvious target for the israeli jets/drones or special forces, sit on it and blow the jets or the drones or the special forces all the way to hell – it’s a question of patience on behalf of the defending forces. would be good to send to the world photos of a downed israeli jet (f35 maybe) and a pilot swinging at the end of a rope. wow, the world anti-zionism day is coming.

The US and Israel are obviously putting maximum pressure of the Iraqi government to NOT re-open the crossing.

I would think that air defences are very necessary there to ensure a ‘price’ will be paid by the US and Israel, or any other US stooges.

Iraqi PM is not Strong at all. And most of the MP from in Iraqi parliament is under US pay. There should be coup and Shia and sunni Scholar should take over the Goverment and remove this US BAses.

You seemes to know nothing. Shiits are the Goverment in Bagdad AND those has called in the Coalision where Bagdad is in too. That Goeverment is public elected as well as it goes.

How can people like You not be taken by som filter.

Theocrazies have ever proven to be human rights disasters, economic disasters. Latest example is Iran. They exploit the poor iranian people, while their next generation lives in wealth in the West.

I have some doubts about the one sided reporting here.

Alledged Iranian bases. Yes. But not alledged Israeli attacks. As there is no proof at all Israelis did this, it is an alledged Israeli attack. The moderaters here are not doing their job properly.

Jens Holm

I agree. Its very onesided.

How unsurprising. All long predicted.

While this great example of trust within the Umma goes on, D24, a local anti SDF source, claims Russia and SDF have agree to the handing over of the nominally Assad controlled villages on the east of the Euphrates to the SDF. Most notably Salhiya and Kashem, famous for the battle between wagner forces and US febr 2018. Iranian proxy militia are reported as protesting.
