At least 21 terrorists were killed during clashes between members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group and the People’s Protection Units (YPG) on the southern side of Hasakah province, near the town of Shaddadi. Reportedly, the fighting was caused by an attempt of IS militants to storm YPG headquarters in the region.

“ISIS terrorists tried to penetrate into the YPG headquarters in the village of al-Malha in the southern part of Shaddadi,” a spokesman for the YPG said. “However, Kurdish YPG fighters repelled the attack after clashes with ISIS militants,” he added.

According to reports, at least 21 IS terrorists lost their lives during the clashes, while four YPG fighters were injured.

In February of this year, a protracted campaign on liberation of Shaddadi city was finished by the YPG and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), consisting mostly of Kurds. In recent months, the IS terrorist group has been attempting to return to the region, launching various attacks from its bases in Deir Ezzur province and using mortars and bomb-laden vehicles.
