Civilains have been returning to Nagorno-Karabakh under protection of the Russian peacekeeping force. Logisttical links in the region are also controlled by the Russians.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, over the past day, 114 refugees returned to the largest Nagorno-Karbakh city, Spetanakert, from the Armenian capital of Yerevan. A total of 50,116 people have already returned to Nagorno-Karabakh to their places of permanent residence.
“Round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and control over the observance of the ceasefire regime at twenty-seven observation posts are being conducted,” the Russian military reported commenting on the situation.
A brief summary of the recent developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh region:
- On January 20, 200 Russian servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping mission participated in the combat training exercises at the Stepanakert training ground;
- As of January 21, bodies of 3450 Armenian servicemen were examined and confirmed, according to the Armenian Health Minister;
- On January 20, 114 displaced persons returned from Yerevan to Stepanakert by buses with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers;
- As of January 21, in total 50,116 people returned to Karabakh with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers.
