On the night of February 25, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) showed resistance in several cities of Ukraine, fightings and sporadic clashes broke out on the streets.
If on the first day of the operation, Russian forces avoided attacks on civilian infrastructure by entering cities without firing a single shot, almost not engaging in battles with Ukrainian military, the second day of the operation will likely be more bloody.
The UAF are resisting in the residential areas in the cities and in their suburbs. On February 25, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively deploying military equipment on the streets in Kiev and Kharkiv. Urban combat is always bloody, and it is very difficult to avoid collateral damage.
Zelensky said that 137 Ukrainians were killed in a day, 316 wounded.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces lost 7 aircraft, 6 helicopters, more than 30 tanks and 120 armored vehicles, up to 800 personnel.
During the fighting, more than 150 servicemen of various security agencies of Ukraine laid down their arms and surrendered, Major General Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, said.
During the special military operation, the Russian Armed Forces took out 118 military facilities of Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including: 11 military airfields, 13 AFU control points and communication nodes, 14 air defense missile systems S-300 and “Osa”, 36 radar stations. 5 combat aircrafts, 1 helicopter and 5 unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down. 18 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 7 multiple rocket launchers, 41 pieces of special military vehicles and 5 combat boats were destroyed.
Donbass frontlines:
DPR forces in the Volnovakha direction, advanced one more kilometer deep into the defense of the nationalist battalions, overcoming the stubborn resistance of the enemy, the Russian Defence Ministry reported. LPR forces advanced up to 9 kilometers in the Stepovoye area .
The shelling of civilian infrastructure in Donbass continues. In Gorlovka, a civilian was killed by the UAF strike, 5 others were wounded.
Two women were also killed as a result of a strike on a school in Gorlovka.
In Donetsk, about two dozen buildings were damaged, including the city’s specialized orphanage. The Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the children’s hospital in Donetsk. The building was significantly damaged by Ukrainian mines.
More servicemen of the 53rd UAF Brigade laid down their arms and were transfered to Donetsk. Several Ukrainian servicemen of the 36th Marines Brigade, who have already laid down their weapons, are also in Donetsk. On the morning of February 25, servicemen of the 57th UAF Brigade raised a white flag, asked for a humanitarian corridor.
They were guaranteed release after signing a pledge never to participate in hostilities.
North-Eastern Ukraine:
At night, a column of 50 UAF armored vehicles headed from the direction of Krasnopolye towards the city of Sumy. Halfway, half of the vehicles turned around and moved back towards Kiev.
Judging by the footage from the Sumy region, the UAF suffered significant losses in equipment.
Russian troops entered the city of Sumy around 5 p.m. on February 24. During the first hours in the city, they faced no resistance.

The head of the Sumy region Zhivitsky confirmed that the nearby city of Konotop was taken in the ring. Ukrainian forces in the town of Akhtyrka repelled Russian troops twice. The settlements of the Sumy region were besieged.

Despite the advance of Russian troops on the northeastern outskirts of Kharkov, the UAF are still holding the city, transferring reinforcements to the Cirkunov area. The dam at the Pechenezh reservoir was destroyed by the UAF.
The UAF are deploying Grad MLRSs in residential neighborhoods of Kharkiv. Images of multiple-launch rocket launchers placed directly in residential areas of the city are published in Ukrainian social networks. Tanks are taking their positions on the streets.

Southern regions
At night, a column of marines and paratroopers of the UAF headed towards Krivoy Rog. It was spotted moving from Nikolaev to Bashtanka. These forces aim to seize and hold the roads to Kremenchug and Dnepropetrovsk, which are running through Krivoy Rog.
On the evening of February 24, fighting broke out near the eastern outskirts of Kherson. It was reported that the UAF had recaptured the road bridge in Kherson and were conducting defensive operations. By morning, Russian troops had passed through according to the footage from the area.
By the morning, several regional districts were taken under control. The city itself was under Ukrainian control.
At night, Russian troops entered Melitopol. There was no resistance. Local sources reported that checkpoints had already been set up all over the city and Russian flags were seen. Meanwhile, in Mariupol, evacuation preparations were underway, and blast furnaces of the largest metallurgical production facilities were being prepared to be shut down and blown up.

In the evening of February 24, the Zmeiny Island in the Odessa region was taken by Russian forces. 82 Ukrainian servicemen surrendered. 13 Ukrainian soldiers were killed.
On February 25, it is reported that there are Russian forces at many checkpoints on the roads near the city of Odessa, that many UAF soldiers have surrendered.

Kiev
On February 24, Russian assault forces landed at the Gostomel airfield northwest of Kiev and are holding the airfield until the main forces arrive. Russian territory also came under fire. On February 24, several shells struck the territory of Crimea. The head of the Republic, Sergey Aksenov confirmed.
At least 140 Ukrainian shells fell on the territory of the Rostov Region at night, the Russian Investigative Committee said.

The UAF plan on using Grad launchers in urban setting with tract rows of high residential blocks around them?! These rockets are generally launched on relatively low trajectory angle, they are not mortars or howitzers, unless they plan on firing with very steep arc upward, they are simply going to hit the surrounding suburb’s tract rows of high apartment buildings on the downward path of trajectory arc. Sitting out in middle of tarmac they are also good stationary targets for Ka-52’s rockets.
