The situation at the front in Palestine and Lebanon remains tense, with no signs of easing tensions. Following Donald Trump’s election as the new president of the United States, there appears to be a stalemate in some fundamental decisions made by Israel concerning the course of the conflict. The Israelis are preparing for the Trump era and are looking to coordinate with the new U.S. president.
In the meantime, conflicts continue in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon.
In the Gaza Strip, since early October, the Israeli army has re-initiated a series of operations in the northern Gaza Strip. Since then, Israeli forces have made advances in the northern part of Gaza City.
The Israeli army has Gradually expanded the scope of its military operations and dispatched its forces to the southern, eastern and northwestern areas of Jabalia.
Although in recent operation, the Israeli army has suffered significant losses from a military point of view, but now many parts of the Jabalia area are under the control of the Israeli army and military operations are still ongoing.
Israel pursues two goals from operations in Gaza City:
First, Israel seeks to destroy the infrastructure of Gaza City and what is left of it as much as possible in order to force the Palestinians present in the city to migrate and leave the area permanently.
Israel’s next goal is probably to create a deeper buffer zone. It seems that the Israeli army intends to expand the so-called buffer zone at the Gaza border to the middle of Gaza City. Previously, this buffer zone was located several kilometers from the Gaza border. The expansion of the buffer zone into the depth of the Gaza Strip effectively facilitates its permanent occupation by the Israeli forces.
The situation in the south and middle of the Gaza Strip has not changed, and scattered clashes continue in the war-torn city of Rafah.
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has worsened in the absence and silence of international organizations. After more than a year of the war, it is now clear that the political and military assistance of the United States of America in support of Israel has led to this humanitarian disaster. According to the latest statistics and information, since the onset of the Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip, more than 43,900 Palestinians have been martyred and more than 103,900 others have been wounded, mostly women and children.
On the other hand, the number of casualties reported by the Israeli army since the initiation of the ground assault on the Gaza Strip has reached 379 military personnel.
In the southern fronts of Lebanon, the Israeli army’s invasion of Lebanon intensified after the assassination of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Since October 1, ground operations have been underway along the southern borders with more intensity.
Since November 14th, the Israeli army has started the second phase of ground operations in southern Lebanon. The main scenario of the second phase is that the Israeli military expands its sphere of influence in the southern border of Lebanon to the towns and villages where Hezbollah is located and the source of rocket and artillery attacks.
Israel is traying to push Hezbollah back to the area behind the Litani River. This goal appears unattainable in the short term, so they are making efforts to capture additional villages and regions in southern Lebanon.
On the other hand, the Israelis are trying to force the Lebanese government to accept their demands by using political means and through Amos Hockstein, the special representative of the US president on Lebanese affairs.
On the ground, battles are going on in three main axes in southern Lebanon: Khiam Front, Bint Jubeil Front and Al-Naqourah Front.
On the Khiam front, the Israeli army has been conducting heavy attacks to capture Khiam for several days, supported by extensive air cover. Israeli forces are currently positioned on the outskirts of Khiam but have not yet succeeded in capturing the town. Khiam serves as a stronghold for Hezbollah on this front, and taking control of this town is crucial for Israel’s future operations in southeastern Lebanon.
On the Bint Jubeil front, the Israeli army captured Aita al-Shaab town and most of Aitaroun and Marun al-Ras. The Israeli army continues to exert heavy pressure to enter Bint Jubeil. However, Hezbollah’s rocket attacks on Marun al-Ras outskirts, as well as Israel’s rear positions are impeding their offensive expansions. Also Hezbollah ambushes have weakened the Israeli forces in this area, causing them to carry out their movements with greater caution.
On the Naqourah front, after weeks of unsuccessful attempts to advance directly towards Al-Naqoura, the Israeli army modified their tactics. They are now approaching the Mediterranean coast by moving through the villages of Jebbin, Tayirharfa, and Chamaa, located to the east of Naqoura. If they succeed, the Al-Naqoura area will be under siege and could fall. The Al-Naqoura front serves as the southern defense line for Tyre, and if it falls, it will be easier for the Israeli army to advance along the coastline toward the city of Tyre.
The Israeli assaults on Lebanon have so far resulted in the death of more than 3,440 Lebanese civilians and injuries of more than 15,000 others. Estimates indicate that more than 500 Hezbollah members have been killed so far. Also, Hezbollah’s attacks against the Israeli positions in the north of occupied Palestine have resulted in the death of more than 100 Israeli servicemen.
