“Recently, Russia has successfully launched a hypersonic missile called “Oreshnik”. This produced a certain impact on our former partners and now rivals. Don’t take this as some kind of impudence, but I want to publicly ask you [Vladimir Putin] to deploy the new weapons systems, first of all, Oreshnik, on the territory of Belarus” – Alexander Lukashenka, Belarusian President

Situation in the sky

In Russia, over the past 24 hours alone, air defenses shot down several Ukrainian drones in the suburbs of the Voronezh city and areas of the region. Moreover, two UAVs were destroyed in the Black Sea near Cape Tarkhankut (Crimea), and a Ukrainian multi-rotor unmanned electrocopter was shot down by a Black Sea Fleet Su-30SM aircraft a few dozen kilometers southwest of Sevastopol.

In Ukraine during the same period, Russian armed forces struck targets in Kiev, Mirgorod (Poltava region), Glukhov (Sumy region), and Chuguev (Kharkiv region) using Geran UAVs.

Situation on the fronts

In the Kursk direction, fierce fighting is taking place in the Sudzha area. Assault units of the Russian Northern group have advanced in the wooded areas near the village of Malaya Loknya. Artillery is operating tightly around the Martynovka settlement. Russian aviation continues to hit Ukrainian positions with heavy aerial bombs.

In the Pokrovskoye direction, intense fighting continues, Russian units are advancing steadily, developing tactical successes in key areas of the front. In during the offensive actions, the Russian Armed Forces are strengthening their positions, creating preconditions for a further breakthrough and encirclement of Ukrainian units.

Russian infantry, supported by armored vehicles, continues offensive operations at the Lysovka-Sukhoy Yar borders. The main direction of attack is the railroad tracks leading towards Mirnograd (Dimitrov).

The active phase of hostilities unfolded in the Novotroitskoye area, where Russian units launched an offensive on the village. This area became an important tactical link, providing the Russian forces with an opportunity to develop their offensive on Shevchenko. At the same time, Russian forces are increasing their activity south of Novotroitskoye in an attempt to reach the village from the east and launch an assault. Fierce fighting continues in this area.

Between Pushkino and Zareya, Russian units have made significant tactical gains. The Ukrainian army is retreating under pressure, allowing Russian forces to proceed with the operation to finally knock the Ukrainian troops out of Sontsovka. This success creates more conditions for expanding the zone of control and preparing for the next stage of the offensive.

In the south of the Kurakhove direction, the Russian Army is still trying to seal the “pocket” in the villages along the Sukhi Yaly River by attacking Uspenovka. The Ukrainian forces still have a corridor less than 2 kilometers wide to withdraw their troops from Vesely Gai and Annivka.

In the Vremevskoye direction, there is fierce fighting near Razdolnoye and Novy Komar, the Ukrainian side is counterattacking.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are reinforcing their defense line and conducting remote mining of the area.

In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian troops are expecting the Russian Army to force the Dnieper River.

In the Kupyansk direction, a Russian assault group on electric scooters was observed. These means of individual mobility allow personnel to disperse and maneuver when remotely placed enemy mines are detected.

On the political front, the key news was Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s request to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to deploy the most sophisticated weapons systems, including hypersonic Oreshnik missiles, in Belarus. In response, Putin said that the deployment of the Oreshnik in Belarus would become possible in the second half of 2025. He assured that as soon as such systems enter the inventory of the Russian troops, they will be delivered to Belarus simultaneously. These weapons systems will be part of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces complex, but it is up to Minsk to select the targets.

Amid the hysteria in the media and political circles about peace, negotiations, the division of Ukraine, etc., heavy fighting continues on the battlefields, while the West keeps supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces with everything they need.

At a meeting with Andriy Yermak, who runs Volodymyr Zelensky’s wartime office, US presidential advisor Jake Sullivan promised that Ukraine would receive hundreds of thousands of shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles by mid-January 2025. At the same time, Kiev will be given about $20 billion in loans, which are to be secured by the income from Russian assets frozen by the West.

Against this background, Ukraine has prepared a draft law providing for the mobilization of women to the front.
