Overview Of Recent Azerbaijani Drone, Missile Strikes On Armenian Forces In Nagorno-Karabakh (Videos)

Support SouthFront

Azerbaijani drones, missiles and precision-guided rockets continue to inflict heavy losses on Armenian forces in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

On October 28, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan and media sources released several videos of recent strikes on Armenian troops and equipment.

The strikes targeted at least 25 posts and gatherings of Armenian forces, as well as:

  • 4 D-20 howitzers;
  • 4 D-30 howitzers;
  • 2 2A36 Giatsint-B howitzers;
  • 3 T-72 battle tanks;
  • 2 trucks;
  • 3 MT-LB armored vehicles;
  • 1 BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle;
  • 1 Communication center.

The strikes in the first three videos were carried out with Bayraktar TB2 combat drones and precision-guided munition, while the strikes seen in the fourth video were carried out with Spike NLOS [Non-Line-Of-Sight] long-range anti-armor missiles.

The heavy material and human losses have forced Armenian troops to retreat from several areas in the southeastern part of Nagorno-Karabakh. Earlier today, thirteen settlements in the regions were captured by Azerbaijani troops.

Hunting soldiers in the forest while tracking them for long time. Apparently Armenian air defense equals zero there.

Mr T

not really, 0.0001%

Erol

In Syria Afrin, which was like Karabagh Mountainous with forests, but additionally also with many interconnected caves and defences didnt save PKK. Winter will make it harder for Armenian Soldiers to move without Trucks etc.

They will be constantly watched and Thermal Cameras will spot them easier then now in cold weather. Logistics will be problematic… They will have to go into shelters in the cold and will make Group Targets.

Random Dude

The only constraint is the clouds that are more frequent and low during winter

SevenMoons

Exactly. Those Artkins are dumb and stubborn like mules. Or like pigs too.

Vox Populi

Do not underestimate Russian and Israeli duplicity. They are both now actively supporting Armenia with new weapons and EW systems. The Zionist aim is to weaken Turkey, and this suits Russia, Kurds and the Armenians. Russia is threatened by NATO on its borders as sees Armenia as a last potential vassal ex-CIS state. Russia also is petrified of a Biden victory as US has once again labeled Russia as a greater threat than China. Part of reason is Biden family financial benefits from Ukraine and China. This situation needs to be wrapped up before January 2021 or a major escalation is on the US and Zionist agenda.

SevenMoons

Not really…

Vox Populi

All the evidence points to the contrary. Pashinyan is now more confident and a major Armenian offensive is coming.

Great Khan

Kurd=donkeyturd hahhaha, Great Khan knows these things …hahahhaha

Servet Köseoğlu

Armenians main aa system Osa is already sorted,at open sources it writes it may be technically impossible to hit targets slower than 360 km/h (which’ld be all propeller-driven UAVs) at a range further than 6500 m (for the reference, MAM-L range is 8 km)

Random Dude

Recent news said that they acquired EW systems. But I guess that didn’t work out

SevenMoons

Armenians need to pay for the code to use the equipment…..

Vox Populi

Russia supplied then with the BellaDonna EW system. In Russian, Belladonna is known as “Krasukha.” The Krasukha jamming system was rushed to Armenia to counter the successful use of both armed drones such as the Bayraktar and suicide drones like the Israel-made loitering munition known as Harop. The Israelis are now switching sides by supplying Armenia with counter UAV electronic warfare gear.

Rhodium 10

Most of these attacks are guide artillery and guide ground to ground missile….drones with laser pointer or surveillance to send GPS coordinates are flying above 5000 mts the max range of Osa system!…

Servet Köseoğlu

5000 m height limit…not range…and tb2 from a distance of 6845 m and an altitude of 19610ft striked on a tank in Kafranbel(syria)…

Rhodium 10

TB2 is a easy target for Pantsir and A-125 because have enough range and Alttitude to shot TB2 down!…we have seen many photos in Syria and Libya!…

Rhodium 10

Terrible videos…it would be the same if Armenian drones would have take pictures of attacks in Barda(AZ) today where 26 people have been killed( included soldiers) and 80 wounded as consecuence of NK attacks!…

Random Dude

Are you saying a video of civilians killed and video of militants killed is the same? Or do you think talking about Barda will rile me up?:)))

Rhodium 10

In Barda almost all people death are AZ soldiers….could be colateral damage like AZ inflict each time they bomb the capital of NK

Random Dude

now i see what your source is. ok, if you say so:))))

Vox Populi

Armenia is now getting direct help from Russian “border guards” aka mercenaries and Pashinyan is boasting of a major counter attack soon as rearmament continues. Azerbaijan needs to wrap up this campaign soon as the Israelis and Russians are playing both sides and want to bog and weaken Turkey. The introduction of Kurdish terrorists is an ominous sign as the Kurds are in total pay of the CIA and Israel and can not lift a finger without their approval. These Russian tactics will only bring Iranians and Turks even closer as the Kurds are viewed a unprincipled terrorist guns for hire in the region. This war is getting regional with severe consequences as Armenia is desperate to widen the conflict and bring in extra-territorial forces, including the Zionists who aim is to weaken all parties.

Great Khan

Azerbaijan brother STRONK! must win soon and kick the Armeni loser mamtu hahahhaa

Servet Köseoğlu

At 3rd video strike at 1:44 is just like Roberto Carlos’s legendary free-kick against France 1997..Magnus effect in fluid mechanics:)))

Mr T

some videos are black and white and not coloured. I wonder why?

lot of red liquids????

Servet Köseoğlu

different type of cameras

SevenMoons

Color images or video need more memory storage. Need to save some money.

The Objective

Probably Turkey demonstrating that Canada blocking sales of cameras will not cripple Turkish drones. The less-clear ones are probably made in Turkey, but still gets the job done. The Turkish engineers will surely come up with much better cameras as time passes by.

Whacko

The Armenians love to show the corpses of Azeri soldiers have made Azeris kill them mercilessly.

murat

Azeri doing a good job with drone attacks but still no real progress to the Lachin corridor.

Rhodium 10

They will lost the war like Turkish backed terrorist lost Saraqib, 5 village, great Aleppo and M5 after Turkish attacks that posted many videos of his perfomance!

Vox Populi

All military analysts give Azerbaijan one more month to score a decisive victory or end up in a Saudi style quagmire. Russian military estimates of Azerbaijani casualties now state that close to 5,000 military and civilian casualties. Azerbaijan will not be able to sustain these losses as Kurds and other mercenaries join in on the Armenian side. The Turks seem incapable of any decisive action as we have seen in Libya and Syria. They start with a lot of fanfare and then run out of steam. Russia is putting pressure on them in Syria as well.

SevenMoons

Soon. No hurry for that.

Vox Populi

You have hit the nail on the head. The Azerbaijan military needs an all out effort to wind this up on the ground.

SevenMoons

Again very entertaining. So it does not matter if Artskins are on the flat terrains or in the mountains. Drones can still find them easily.

More Artskins will be killed.

The S-300s don’t seem to be able to secure NK airspace from the larger payload drones capable of destroying heavy weapons. This is a problem. Armenia has, or had, 50 of these launchers. It should be a Turkey shoot, no pun intended, for a system like the S-300 to take these drones down soon after launch while they’re still in Azerbaijan airspace. Before they even get over NK. Or soon after they cross into NK airspace.

Either the S-300s don’t work as advertised. Or they’re being handicapped for a variety of reasons. I’m guessing the latter, though I really don’t know one way or the other. It really puts the entire Russian air defense complex in question for people looking at acquiring or already in possession of these systems.

I agree that in this case that there are a lot of extenuating circumstances. But if the intention of Russia’s adversaries, like the Jews, was to make Russia’s much vaunted S-300 super weapon look feckless and totally useless during it’s maiden engagement, no pun intended, they succeeded in spades in making the Russians look like fools. The Russians obviously aren’t fools. But this S-300 high dive belly flop as Armenians are slaughtered by drones every day that S-300s are supposed to be able to blow out of the sky easily. Is very bad PR.

Great Khan

map give Great Khan headache ….hahhahaha

The Objective

You mean Armenia has up to 50 S-300 launchers? Unbelievable! If what you say is true, then I have zero doubt that the S-300 is seriously flawed. There can be no excuse. No reasonable person will believe that the Armenian crews aren’t competent. The same excuse given whenever Russian AA systems fail. It seems no other country except the Russians can operate the S-300 successfully.

RichardD

The S-300 has never seen combat until this war that I’m aware of. And the result of combat use in this war is that up to several were allegedly destroyed. Whether they were ever used for anything other than serving as target practice for the opposing force is unknown.

In Syria they’ve served as a deterrent, somewhat similar to nukes. Where they have helped keep the IAF, US and others out of Syrian airspace. But their function as a deterrent is being degraded by their abject failure in Nagorno-Karabahk. And may lead to an increase in aggression against Russia and others using these systems as the lynch pin of their air defense force capability.

They’re not a simple system. And operator competency is a factor. But the Russians have something of a kill switch in that any system of this capability is designed for satcom integration. Which unless you have a capable satcom network of your own, you’re dependent on somebody else’s.

“The biggest part of Russia’s military satellite constellation involves 51 communication spacecraft, with 16 Earth-observation satellites. This differs from the American, Chinese and European ones, where Earth-observation satellites dominate. For instance, the U.S. has 56 Earth-observation satellites and 49 communication satellites, but China has 57 Earth-observation satellites and only three communication satellites.” https://www.defensenews.com/opinion/commentary/2020/04/02/russia-is-behind-in-military-space-capabilities-but-that-only-drives-its-appetite/

However these systems are capable of operating at a lower, though still effective depending on circumstances, level as part of a networked national air defense force, and as a last resort as stand alone autonomous systems. The Armenian radar network appears to be almost exclusively Soviet era equipment. So it’s all quite dated. What kind of repair that it’s in, and what if any upgrades have been done is unknown.

There are also the issues of what kind of shape the Armenian S-300s are in. These are early generation units. And some of them weren’t designed for stealth aircraft and modern electronic counter measures. So even if they’re in good repair and are operating to design specification. If they haven’t been upgraded to deal with current technology. Then they’re operating at a disadvantage. Unlike the Clamshell Radar used by many S-300s. It doesn’t look like some models of the Tin Shield radar used by one S-300 reportedly destroyed is stealth capable. And Israeli Harop drones were reportedly used. Which are stealth aircraft.

“The IAI Harop (or IAI Harpy 2) is a loitering munition developed by the MBT division of Israel Aerospace Industries. It is an anti-radiation drone that can autonomously home in on radio emissions. This SEAD-optimised loitering munition is designed to loiter the battlefield and attack targets by self-destructing into them.[1] The drone can either operate fully autonomously, using its anti-radar homing system, or it can take a human-in-the-loop mode. If a target is not engaged, the drone will return and land itself back at base.

It has been designed to minimize its radar-signature through stealth (low-observability). This anti-radiation drone is designed to target enemy air-defense systems in a first line of attack, as the small drone (with its small radar cross-section) can evade SAMs and radar detection systems which are designed to target much larger aircraft or to intercept fixed-trajectory missiles.[2]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Harop

But the Armenian and Russian militaries are well aware of all of these issues. So whether the S-300 deployments in Nagorno-Karabahk were designed to fail, or the S-300 is an incapable system is unknown. Until they start performing as advertised. Failures like what’s happening in Nagorno-Karabahk only add doubt as to the system’s capability.

In theory 50 S-300 launchers properly configured should be able to close the airspace over NK to the types of drone strikes being used. The complete failure of them to do so is a clear warning to anyone depending on these systems for air defense. There are a lot of valid excuses that can be used to explain why this failure occurred. But the simple fact of the matter is that these systems have never been combat proven. And in every opportunity to do so. They’ve never been successful.

The Objective

Thank you for a detailed explanation. It’s just so hard to confirm anything nowadays because of official lies and denials. But I think that since Russian AA systems have never stopped a coordinated drone attack, they still have work to do in proving their viability. For example, In Libya, several Russian AA systems were destroyed. Despite Haftar having these systems long before Turkey intervened in the war, he was unable to stop the Turkish advance primarily spear-headed by drones. It took serious diplomatic pressure and threats of a war with Egypt for Turkey to stop the advance. Russia even deployed jet fighters to help deter further Turkish advances. Again in Syria, Assad’s forces were advancing on Idlib and when Turkey intervened using drones, it not only stopped Assad’s advance but also forced the SAA to retread. Now again in NK, the Armenians could not impose a no-fly zone over NK despite having S-300 systems for years now. Incompetence cannot be the cause. They’ve had these systems for at least a decade. How long will it take to train a competent crew to man the S-300. We may be underestimating the effectiveness of drones. I doubt the Russian engineers are taking drones lightly now. They’re probably working tooth and nail to find a way around this new challenge, and I pray for God to deny them the wisdom to find a solution. Hopefully, Russia’s aggression will limited. The world already has a big bully in America to deal with. We don’t need a second big bully. Whatever the case is, it sure looks like the Russian AA defenses have been penetrated.

RichardD

Syria may an exception. The drone attacks caught them by surprise and were stopped and Turkish forces, including the Turkish military, were pushed back in a counter offensive. How much of the neutralization of the Turk’s drones was done by anti aircraft fire and how much was done by jet fighter’s is unknown.

The Syrian air force reportedly received upgraded air to air missiles to deal with the drones, and Pantsirs and BUK units were brought in from other areas. Which were also reportedly highly effective. Without even having to use their S-300s. Other than the radars.

Even if the Russians aren’t providing the Armenians satcom data feeds. The S-300s have robust radars depending on the versions. And should be able to blanket Nagorno-Karabahk from Armenian ground stations. And whatever systems are in NK.

Armenia’s air defense force on paper should be capable of independently putting a no fly zone in place over Nagorno-Karabahk. The fact that it’s not happening looks bad for Russia.

RichardD

Armenia has a defense pact with Russia. I haven’t read it. But putting a no fly zone in place over N-K from Armenian and N-K ground stations probably doesn’t violate it. And any attack on Armenian air defense systems from Turkey or Azerbaijan risks bringing Russia into the war on Armenia’s side.

Which is something that the Turks have already had a lot of trouble with in Idlib. And are unlikely to want to repeat in Armenia.

cechas vodobenikov

the recent CIA turk paid agents here display their stupidity as do some Armenians here
