Recently, Kyiv has increased missile and drone attacks on territory of Russia. Responding to further escalation, Russian army launched another one retaliatory strike on Kiev on December 20.
Strikes on Russia
Yesterday, December 19, the Russian MOD reported that six U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles and four Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles were launched against the Kamensky Combine (engaged in the production of rocket fuel) in the Rostov Region.
S-400, Buk-M3 and Pantsir S1 SAM systems shot down all ATACMS and three of the four Storm Shadow missiles, but one of them reached its target.

Earlier this morning, 36 Ukrainian UAVs were intercepted and destroyed by air defence systems operating on duty. 16 UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Krasnodar Region, 14 over the Black Sea, five over the territory of the Bryansk Region, and one over the territory of the Belgorod Region.
Strikes on Ukraine
In response to Ukraine’s use of Western weapons, a series of powerful explosions erupted in Kiev this morning. The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, reported air defense activities in the following areas of the city and its vicinity:
- in the Holosiivskyi District of Kiev – a heating main and a gas pipe were damaged;
- in the Boryspil District of the Kiev Region;
- in Vasylkiv, the Kiev Region, where a military airfield is located. There is an assumption that F-16 fighter jets were being hunted.
On December 20, the Russian Defense Ministry also released an official statement commenting on the recent strikes on targets in Ukraine:
On 18 December 2024, the AFU launched a missile strike at the Kombinat Kamensky enterprise in Rostov region by six U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles and four Storm Shadow air-based cruise missiles from the territory of Ukraine.
This morning, in response to the actions of the Kiev regime supported by Western countries, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation delivered a group strike by long-range precision weaponry at a command post of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Luch Design Bureau, which develops and manufactures Neptune missile systems and Olkha MLRS ground-based cruise missiles, as well as hit positions of a Patriot SAM system.
The goals of the strike has been achieved. All the targets have been engaged.

On top of that, there were reports of airstrikes in Cherkasy and Ukrainian-controlled Kherson.
In the Zaporizhzhia Region alone, the Russian Armed Forces carried out 399 strikes on 12 localities over the past 24 hours. 4 air strikes hit Stepnogorsk and Pyatikhatki, ️240 UAVs of various modifications attacked Lobkovoye, Huliaipole, Shcherbaki, Novoandreyevka, Novodanylivka, Malya Tokmachka, Bilohorye, Malinovka, Olgovskoye and Novodarivka. 5 MLRS shelling hit Novodanylivka, Malyaya Tokmachka, Malinovka and Novodarivka. 150 artillery attacks covered the territory of Lobkovoye, Huliaipole, Shcherbakov, Novoandreyevka, Novodanylivka, Malaya Tokmachka, Bilohorye, Malinovka, Olgovskoye and Novodarivka. It is worth noting that according to the Ukrainian reports, no civilians were injured.
