Overview Of Russian Strikes In Ukraine On January 2, 2023

Fire in Dnipro

On January 2, Russian forces launched another attack on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure facilities throughout Ukraine. At night, Russian UAVs struck their targets in the Cherkassy, Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson regions, as well as in the part of the DPR which remains under control of the Kiev regime.

In total, in the morning air alert sounded in eat least ight regions of Ukraine. In the afternoon, an air alert was again declared in the Cherkasy, Kirovograd and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine.

In the early hours of January 2, explosions thundered in the capital of Ukraine. According to local reports, the first explosion thundered in the Desnyansky district of the capital. One person was reportedly wounded. Later, the local officials reported other explosions. So far, the information on other strikes of Russian UAVs is yet to be revealed.

The mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attack and claimed that energy infrastructure facilities were damaged. Emergency power outages have begun in the city. Some facilities that provided heat to the residents of the capital were reportedly cut of energy supplies. According to the mayor, water supplies were not interrupted.

Another critical infrastructure facility was damaged in the Kiev region, said the head of the Kiev regional military Administration Alexey Kuleba. The attack resulted in no casualties.

Kiev residents shared videos of a large number of ambulances and police spotted in one of the districts of the capital of Ukraine which was reportedly a linked to the Russian strikes:

At night, Russian Geranium-2 kamikaze UAVs hit targets in the city of Dnipro. At least two explosions thundered in the city. As a result of the strike, a large fire broke out and local security forces have been trying to eliminate it for several hours

Several explosions thundered on the afternoon of January 2 in the Ukrainian city of Ochakov located on the Black Sea coast. They were reported by Ukrainian media with reference to the testimonies of numerous eyewitnesses. So far, no details of the incidents have been revealed.

The explosions were likely the result of another Russian attack in the strategically important town of Ukraine which hosted the Ukrainian Navy. The military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region, including in Ochakov, has been attacked by Russian troops several times in recent days.

Local residents reported the sounds of explosions in Uman in the Cherkasy region and Kremenchuk in the Poltava region. Military facilities were reportedly hit by Russian UAVs in the Kharkov, Zaporozhie and Kherson regions as well as in the settlements located near the Donbass front lines.

It seems that the Russian military intends to continue round-the-clock attacks using the UAVs and missiles throughout Ukraine. In recent days, attacks by Russian missiles have almost immediately been followed by kamikaze drone raids. At the same time, less missiles and drones are used in these attacks. Such tactics of prolonged strikes are most likely aimed at “overheating” the Ukrainian air defense forces, as well as at the immediate cover of their deployment.

Turkey agreed to leaving Syria if their conditions are met. Will Russia do the same to Ukraine if Zelensky falls?
