On the night of November 1-2, Russia and Ukraine continued their exchange of strikes. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian side employed 79 attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and two ballistic missiles. In turn, Russian air defense systems, as stated by the Russian Defense Ministry, destroyed 164 Ukrainian UAVs over the course of the night.
Ukrainian aviation expert Valeriy Romanenko highlighted a significant increase in Russia’s use of ballistic missiles. He stated that 101 such missiles were launched at Ukraine in October, which is approximately five times the figure from the previous month, when 21 launches were recorded. Romanenko links this intensification to Ukraine’s acute shortage of modern air defense systems, such as Patriots, which reduces interception capabilities. The expert also noted that, in his opinion, Russia had been accumulating missiles since spring and is now actively using these stockpiles to target both infrastructure and military objects.
Strikes on Ukrainian Territory
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that during the night attack, its air defense forces, according to preliminary data, shot down or suppressed 67 of the 79 UAVs. The Russian Defense Ministry, for its part, stated that it struck energy facilities supporting the operations of Ukrainian defense industry enterprises, locations for storage and preparation of attack UAVs, as well as deployment points of Ukrainian military units and foreign mercenaries across 141 districts. Additionally, the Russian Black Sea Fleet destroyed six uncrewed boats in the northwestern part of the Black Sea.
Strikes targeted several key regions. One of the primary objectives was Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where the railway junction, as well as energy and industrial infrastructure, came under attack. Targeting this transport and logistics hub complicates the redeployment of troops and supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the Chernihiv region, a combined strike was carried out on ammunition depots and a radar station, undermining defense and reconnaissance capabilities in this area.
In the Odesa region, UAVs hit port and energy facilities in Izmail, including a heavy truck parking lot, damaging Ukraine’s logistical and export routes.
In Zaporizhzhia, according to Russian sources, a UAV assembly workshop was destroyed by missile strikes, directly impacting the production capabilities of the Ukrainian army. Furthermore, a gas infrastructure facility at the Semenivske field in the Poltava region was attacked, which could affect the region’s energy stability.
Strikes on Russian Territory
The largest numbers of Ukrainian UAVs were shot down over the Black Sea (39), over Krasnodar Krai (32), and over Crimea (26). Significant activity was also noted over the Bryansk (20), Oryol and Rostov (9 each), Lipetsk (6), and Voronezh (5) regions. Over the Sea of Azov and the Belgorod, Kursk, and Tula regions, between two and three drones were destroyed.
Reports emerged of damage to infrastructure objects in a number of regions. In Krasnodar Krai, according to Russian sources, a tanker caught fire and an oil terminal in the port of Tuapse was damaged following a strike. Ukrainian media, citing sources in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), claimed five hits: one on the tanker and four on oil loading berths and a port building. Furthermore, two foreign vessels in the port were also damaged. It is worth noting that an informal maritime truce had previously been observed between Ukraine and Russia, whereby each side’s transport vessels were not attacked. Today’s strike on Russian port infrastructure may signal a shift in this situation.
In the Oryol region, an attack on a substation was reported. Similar strikes on energy facilities, according to local residents and Telegram channels, occurred in the Lipetsk and Kursk regions. Commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, claimed the destruction of five electrical substations in Russia, specifically mentioning the town of Gryazi in Lipetsk region. A number of sources also reported a strike on a substation in Zheleznogorsk, Kursk region. Russian authorities have not provided official comments on these incidents.
In the Luhansk People’s Republic, a substation in Alchevsk was damaged, which, according to local media, led to temporary power outages and potential disruptions to water supply.
