Both Moscow and Zelensky agreed to stop their mutual strikes on energy infrastructure in the rear regions for 30 days. However, the agreement does not limit strikes on other targets, and the warring sides continue mutual massive attacks.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in total, 132 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by Russian air defense on the night of March 20th. The intercepted targets included:
- 54 UAVs in the rear Saratov region;
- 40 UAVs in the rear Voronezh region;
- 22 UAVs in the border Belgorod region;
- 9 UAVs in the southern Rostov region;
- 3 UAVs in the border Kursk region;
- 3 UAVs in Crimea;
- 1 UAV in the rear Lipetsk region.

The rear Saratov region came under the most massive attack since the beginning of the Special Military Operation in Ukraine. Dozens of Ukrainian drones targeted the city of Engels located near the capital city of Saratov. As a result of the attack, the local oil depot caught fire. A large fire reportedly broke out in the area of the local military airfield. According to local reports, Another target of the attack was reportedly the local ammo depot. Reports about the attack on the ammo depot are confirmed by the damage caused to the civilian infrastructure in the city. About 30 civilian houses were damaged. Windows were shattered in the city hospital. Several civilians were wounded. People were evacuated from their houses located near the airfield.
The airfield hosts the 121st Guards Heavy Aviation Regiment, which is part of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is from this airfield that Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-160 take off to launch strikes in Ukraine.
On the other hand, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue devastating strikes on Ukrainian rear military infrastructure, without targeting Ukrainian energy facilities.
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in total, 171 Russian drones targeted Ukraine at night. The all-mighty Ukrainian air defense allegedly destroyed 75 of them, while 63 decoy drones disappeared inflicting no damage. Thus, according to the Ukrainian military, only 33 Russian drones reached their targets. Unable to hide damage, Ukraine officially confirmed Russian strikes in the Kirovograd, Sumy regions and in the DPR.
Russian strikes continue day and night with a wide range of weapons. Over the past day alone, they were recorded in the areas of the Donbass under Ukrainian control, in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporozhie, Kherson, Poltava, Khmelnitsky, Cherkassy regions. Russian Iskander-M missile destroyed target in Kamenskoe in the Dnepropetrovsk region, drone strikes were recorded in Dnipro, Novomoskovsk, Sinelnikovo. The capital Kiev, as well as Bucha, Irpen, Gostomel came under attacks in the Kiev region.
One of the main targets of the night strikes was the city of Kropivnitsky (former Kirovograd). Dozens of strikes thundered in the city, which was covered with fires. The local officials confirmed damage to infrastructure facilities and delay of trains in the region.
According to the footage published by the local residents, several dozens of Russian drones struck the territory of the local ‘Hydrosila’ (Hydropower) entreprise, specialized in the development, production and sale of gear, axial-piston and other hydraulic drives for hydraulic systems of various vehicles. The workshops of the enterprise and the adjacent railway infrastructure, including loading areas, were heavily affected.
According to preliminary reports, the 17th aviation technical support base also came under massive attack. It was one of the key infrastructure facilities of the Air Force of Ukraine ensuring the combat readiness of aircraft operating on the eastern and southern frontlines. The base provided maintenance and repair of combat aircraft of the Ukrainian aviation, including Su-27, MiG-29, Su-25 and Su-24. According to Russian military monitoring sources, Russian strikes destroyed and damaged eight Ukrainian concrete shelters and hangars for aircraft and aircraft engine assemblies, three technical hangars, two hangars for technical diagnostics and two maintenance workshops. Warehouses with missiles and oil depots were also struck.
The rear city of Kropivnitsky is coming under Russian attacks on a regular basis. It hosts a large number of important targets for Russian drones and missiles.
