The Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip continue to inflict losses on Israeli troops attempting to advance in the Gaza Strip.
On January 27, Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released video footage showing its fighters attacking a bulldozer, an armored personnel carrier and several main battle tanks of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza with rocket-propelled grenades.
Another video that was released by the group shows the wreckage of several Israeli drones, including quadcopters and loitering munition, which were recently shot down over Gaza City in the northern part of the Strip.
The al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, also released two combat videos on January 26 and 27. The first video shows recent mortar attacks on gatherings of the IDF in Khan Younis, while the other shows a quadcopter that was shot down by the group’s fighters over the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
In addition, the Mujahideen Brigades released on January 27 a video documenting a rocket attack on the Israeli settlement of Netiv HaAsara, and another showing the wreckage of an IDF Skylark-3 reconnaissance that was shot down with a man-portable air defense system over the city of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.
The recently released videos show how Gaza factions have been effectively inflicting material and human losses on the IDF.
So far, the IDF has acknowledged listing 220 troops in ground operations inside the Strip. More than 1,200 others have been wounded.
The fierce resistance of Hamas and other factions in Gaza forced the IDF to withdraw from several areas in northern Gaza earlier this month. However, Israel expanded operations in the southern part of the Strip, mainly in Khan Younis and nearby areas.
Overall, the IDF has failed to achieve its stated goal of eradicating Hamas and its allies in Gaza. The factions are in fact adapting and improving their defensive tactics.
