The Abu Ali Mustapha Brigades announced on September 14 that its fighters had shot down a small Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Gaza Strip.
“Our snipers managed to shot down and capture an Israeli UAV east of Khan Yunis [in the southern part of Gaza],” the Palestinian group said in an official statement.
According to the statement, the UAV is a commercially bought DJI Mavic Pro. The Israeli military had used off the shelf UAVs before around Gaza to monitor the situation and disband protesters near the separation fence.
The Abu Ali Mustapha Brigades is the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), one of the oldest Palestinian organizations.
Commenting on the Palestinian group’s announcement, the Israeli military said that it is not aware of such an incident.
On September 10, the Hamas Movement shot down an Israeli UAV equipped with sophisticated cameras east of Rafah. Back then, Hamas claimed that it managed to unveil the details of the drone’s mission.
