United States forces in Iraq and Syria have come under attack 140 times since October 17, the Pentagon revealed on January 18.
“To date, there have been approximately 140 attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria,” said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh, adding that 57 of the strikes targeted U.S. forces in Iraq, and 83 in Syria.
Singh did not specify the number of U.S. troops injured in the attacks, which began in response to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella group of Iranian-backed armed factions, claimed responsibility for most of the attacks that targeted U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria.
The last attack to be announced by the group on January 18 targeted a U.S. base near Erbil International Airport in the northern Iraqi autonomous region of Kurdistan. A suicide drone that was used in the attack was reportedly intercepted by U.S. air defenses.
The U.S. responded more than once. Mushtaq Talib “Abu Taqwa” al-Saidi, a senior commander of Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, was killed in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in a retaliatory drone strike earlier this month.
Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba is a part of the Popular Mobilization Forces, which is recognized by the Iraqi government, and it is said to be also a key faction of the IRI. U.S. defense officials claimed that Abu Taqwa was responsible for some of the recent attacks in Iraq and Syria.
Despite recent U.S. strikes, the IRI remains undeterred. The group stepped up attacks on vital targets in Israel in recent weeks.

in fact the chance of dying in the murikan forces worldwide (approx 600 to 1100 dead pa) is approximately one fiftieth of dying from gun violence back home in the good old u-s-of-a (40k to 50+k dead pa) using official figures from 2012 -2022). “my kind of town, chcgo is…!”
