NATO’s paranoia over Russia is reaching dangerous levels. Trying to justify a renewal in Ukraine aid, American officials are hardening their anti-Russian narratives, raising fears among allies. Once again, NATO resorts to the myth of “Russian expansionism” to legitimize its policy of systematically arming Ukraine.
In a statement on February 6, Sabrina Singh, Pentagon press secretary, stated that a direct war between NATO and Russia could emerge as a consequence of the American failure to adequately support Kiev. According to her, the Russian government will not stop its military actions, as they are supposedly motivated by the search for “power and control”. In her opinion, military aid is helping Ukraine keep the conflict restricted to its own territory, preventing Moscow from launching military actions in other countries – including NATO members. With the end of Western aid, Kiev will lose and then Russia will be able to expand the conflict to other territories.
“If the US stopped support to Ukraine, we should be clear-eyed about the repercussions. Putin is not going to stop and his quest for power and control beyond Ukraine’s borders. Toward NATO. If Putin attacks a NATO ally, we will find ourselves in direct conflict as we are committed to defending every NATO member (…) So let’s be clear. We can do the responsible thing and pay now to help Ukraine or we can pay much more later to counteract the gains we give Vladimir Putin and embolden Russia,” Singh said.
Singh’s words came after the statement by John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, who said that, without the approval of a new bill establishing a broad aid package to Ukraine, the assistance will have to be suspended. As well known, the American government has been pushing to continue sending money and weapons to the neo-Nazi regime, but there are strong objections to this from the Congress and public opinion, leading to a situation of uncertainty regarding the future of Ukraine aid.
In this sense, Singh tries to warn American decision makers about a supposed “danger” with the end of such aid. For the secretary, it is clear that, after the Ukrainian defeat, Russia will “invade” and “annex” new territories, leading the situation to a war with NATO. The only way to avoid this, according to Singh, is to maintain Ukraine’s systematic armament – despite several military analysts making it clear that the neo-Nazi regime has no chance of reversing the conflict outcome, regardless of the weapons it receives from the West.
In fact, Singh is not the only person to have such opinions. She merely reflects the anti-Russian bellicose mentality of most Western elites. In recent years, NATO has created the myth of “Russian expansionism” to foment fear among allies and encourage them to take preventative militarization measures. The side effect of this was the creation of a hostile atmosphere against Russia, motivating Moscow to take defensive actions, such as launching the special operation in Ukraine.
The current conflict is a direct result of NATO’s expansionism, not Russia’s. Moscow simply decided to defend itself from imminent aggression on its borders. So, there is no validity to the argument that there is some kind of “Russian expansionism”. On the contrary, it is NATO itself, together with its proxies, that is creating an environment of hostility against Moscow in Europe.
In this sense, the path to ending the conflict is simple: all NATO needs to do is stop arming Kiev, allow peace negotiations and give Russia guarantees that it will not continue to expand in Eastern Europe. But NATO refuses to do so and, instead, prefers to continue fomenting chaos, sending weapons to prolong the war and encouraging more countries to take part in the conflict based on an irrational fear that Moscow will continue its military activities after Kiev is fully defeated.
The Russian Federation has already made it clear that it does not have any territorial ambitions in the west. Russian actions do not indicate any sign that Moscow will expand the conflict zone. Russian interests are clear: demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, guaranteeing the liberation of the New Regions and Kiev’s neutrality. No other territorial or political interests have been added since the beginning of the operation, so NATO’s claims of “expansionism” are unfounded.
The only way this conflict is not limited to Ukraine and Russia launches military actions in other countries is if NATO and its allies irresponsibly decide to attack Moscow. Russia has only acted in a defensive position, reacting to the aggressions it suffered. Therefore, the possibility of a direct war with NATO can only be avoided by the Western alliance itself. If there is no attack on Russia (including its New Territories and its positions in the conflict zone), there will be no Russian response – and therefore there will be no “direct war”.
However, the US needs to continue to build up irrational fear to justify using Ukraine as a proxy, which is why speeches like Singh’s will continue to be frequent.

to be honest people in the west are vomiting just seeing putin’s picture. you don’t have clue how aggressive brainwashing campaign took place in the west since russia entered syria and helped assad avoid fate of hussein and kaddafi. every disaster in tv news is associated with putin. even natural ones. forest fires ? putin did it. earthquake ? putin’s fault. car accident ? putin. ukraine targeted russian civilians with himars ? putin. and to be honest, brainwashing campaign works perfectly.
the western mainstream and so called “news” are very similar to hitler’s film industry with the only difference that you needn’t watch hitler’s propaganda during the holocaust if you didn’t wanted but propaganda nowadays is everywhere, on your workplace, in your mobile phone, in your kitchen, in your bedroom and probably even in the toilet. no escape.
they hate him since he took office and did not do what he was suposed to do. just let the western und russian oligarchs plunder russian oil and gas for free. they had these private public partnerships going in the yelzin era. where western companys would get the oil/ gas out of the ground and to the costomers in the west.
they should have taken a cut and given the rest of the revenue to russia. but they made up costs that were allways equal to the profit so that they never gave anything to the government. since putin stopped it they hate him.
they think that we americans are all a bunch of ignorant dumb and blind suckers. i will never vote democrats again
this is not about voting anymore. voting doesn’t work, americans are dumb absolutely and beyond repair. the whole middle class is out of the touch with the reality, the billionaires are doing what they want with impunity and homeless losers are treated as celebrities. there are not 2 parties in the u.s. but only one, demo-rep puppet show sponsored by international money from multinational corporations. it doesn’t make any difference who will you vote for.
and it will end up with world scale disaster of course. as soon as china russia etc. learn that american brainwashed zombie can’t be trusted, can’t be persuaded with facts, can’t be peacefully informed about the evil they did during tha past 80 years they will conclude that the only way how to survive is to kill all american zombies. and they will do that as the u.s. cheerleaders are forcing them to do so.
(nato resorts to the myth of “russian expansionism”) due to actual proves of extraordinary speed with which russian army advances. there is theoretical danger that great grandchildren of these soldiers march in paris some day if they decide to start now.
