Well they look very well resourceful for a irregular forces. Something we could only have extensively in Syria. Really just how much money invested that’s wasted as the Russian intervene on Syria behalf? They may rebuilt Iraq or Afghanistan with all those money. Really how backwards they way of thinking is.

Skagos

So they can get hit better? :D

Wegan

The capture of Afrin and Manbij will come with more surprises. Americans might have Built Underground launching Missiles or ar in the process too. One more reason, you can’t play the American game. The YPG/PKK must go ASAP before they get entrenched.

Graeme Rymill

“Americans might have Built Underground launching Missiles” The US might secretly have built Disney World Manbij too… but they didn’t and they haven’t built an underground missile launching site in Afrin or Manbij either.

FlorianGeyer

When I listen to US State Dept and US Military briefings I usually think I must be in Disney Land though Graeme :)

Graeme Rymill

I get that same feeling reading some of the comments here – “Fantasyland – the happiest Kingdom of them all….”

FlorianGeyer

Funnily enough I sometimes ‘get the same feeling’ with your comments and always with those if Dutchnational and Solomon Krapacheque.

The realities I enjoy are a SAA liberated Aleppo , Deir Ezzor etc and the full exposure of US/NATO connivance with medieval terrorism in Syria and Iraq.

matt

It isn’t that enjoyable Florian, it actually sucks! All this killing and suffering for no reason, except making money for the ultra rich…

FlorianGeyer

I would agree Matt. watching this film should be made obligatory for all politicians and leaders who think that nuclear war is winnable.

https://archive.org/details/TheWarGame_201405

The War Game was made for the BBC in 1965, but not broadcast at the time. It is a docudrama based upon a supposed nuclear attack on the south east of England. It was written and produced by Peter Watkins with commentary by Dick Graham and Michael Aspel.

Ronald

Mostly rich Americans . That’s why the Kurds being used by them breaks my heart . Because like you they are mostly good people , but got suckered by the Yanks .

Robert Ferrin

Lol go troll somewhere else for you have worn out your welcome here it seems…

MH370

i cant believe the kurds are weak too

dutchnational

Are these photos of the first or the second time before TSK lost the mountain. No indication when they were taken, so no indiication who holds it NOW.

Bob

If click the source link in report the images were posted on 29th – but accompanying text is Cyrillic. But similar photos uploaded to Twitter early on day before – 28th. See similar images:

Feudalism Victory

Looks half finished and not a lot of bullet holes.

World_Eye

Damn look at the Kurd’s they were so busy they were not wasting any second of their time, they even did trenches from concrete all over the places, Daesh was digging holes too, but this Kurd’s are smarter version of Daesh like 2.0v. They have all the places made from concrete smart tho.But yet again noticeable from Drones while making and that’s bad.

javier

yea real smart, they are so smart they thought they didn’t need a plan in the face of a vastly superior oncoming turkish force, real smart

Barba_Papa

You can ask the French how well their concrete defense line worked out. Or the Germans on their Atlantic Wall. Methinks Grey and Green Daesh are doing it smarter with their underground tunnel systems that allow them to pop up where not expected. The battles for Mosul and Raqqa took months, and East Ghouta is proving to be a meatgrinder for the SAA because of that. In the face of a superior armed enemy a mobile hit and run defense with lots of surprise ambushes probably works better then fixed fortified defenses.

FlorianGeyer

You can also ask the Dutch about ‘ Eben Emael ‘ Barba. :) :)

Jaime Galarza

I understand this was a Belgian fort.

dutchnational

Correct.

Lots of defense systems turned out not to be suited to technological advances in wwi and wwII, including the dutch immersed defensive water fort line.

FlorianGeyer

Yes, my apologies, Fort Eben Emael looked over Belgium’s border with the Netherlands.

Robert Ferrin

Your right we found that out in Nam..

Tudor Miron

Maginot Line didn’t work well in mil terms but I’ve heard it turned out great for mushrooms plant :)

Barba_Papa

Well, the French do love their mushrooms, right? ;)

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

If it wasn’t for UK,Canadian and British Commonwealth engineers the US would never have even left the beaches. Germany bypassed the line french never thought they would get outflanked by Tanks. Well even the Dukhis are not any real good , First world war had great underground bunkers but built by Germans and Canadians full operational underground bases. Today we see caves and not all that great of a network system and we see how they are easily captured and overrun.

Hendrik

The art of bunker building seems to got lost after WW2.

Barba_Papa

The development of bunker busting smart munitions probably had something to do with that. ;-)

Then again it seems to have moved underground. We saw it in Vietnam, and North Korea, Hezbollah, and the various Jihadi groups in Syria have turned it into an art form.

Hendrik

I don’t think the Turks are using so sophisticated weaponry. Anyway, these are just concrete towers, but no bunkers. Maybe watch posts. So what have the kurds done in all those month? It was obvious that the Turks will attack sooner or later, they could have turned this mountain into a fortress.

as

They’re just about to get to that looking from the construction. I believe this is because they really short manpower here. Kurds want nobody else knows what’s in there, the layout, construction, etc. They seem hellbent on setting up their own permanent military base to discourage anyone from Syrian government or turkey to dethrone their administrative right to the province.

abuqahwa

agree – the real defense network in urban terrain

Graeme Rymill

It is good to see that you haven’t given up the search for the non-existent US weapons stashes! Keep the dream alive!

as

Of course. Well they’ve found at least 3 sites now and those USAID weapons program for the Kurds that have going on for months now couldn’t have just evaporated into thin air couldn’t it? Then again there’s a possibility the Kurds are making money by selling them to the ISIL and Al-Qaeda.

Graeme Rymill

Three US weapons caches found in Afrin? Please share your sources…..

ohhh… I forgot “as” doesn’t do sources… lol

Robert Ferrin

Hmm if the U.S. haden’t been giving weapons to the Kurd’s why did Trump make the statement that all futher weapon deliveries had been stopped, which of course dosen’t mean the CIA isn’t still running them weapons…

Graeme Rymill

The US has been giving weapons to the SDF. Not the Afrin Kurds.

as

I make no distinction over US backed forces. So well SDF=ISIS=Kurds

Virgil Cane

“Well they’ve found at least 3 sites now and those USAID weapons program” Proof or this is more SF reader fanatsy

FlorianGeyer

I was thinking the same myself Hendrik. It appears that the Kurds have not studied the ‘effectiveness’ of the Maginot Line and the Atlantic Wall :)

matt

You forget something very important: They have VERY little building materials

FlorianGeyer

Whether they have or not, ‘castles’ are just big permanent targets that are doomed in modern wars.

Graeme Rymill

If you don’t have the means for mobile warfare: tanks. self-propelled artillery or even towed artillery and of course combat aircraft and attack helicopters then you have little option but to rely on fortifications and positional warfare.

Landcrusiers and heavy machine guns may work, up to a point, in the Syrian desert but are of limited use in the hills and mountains of Afrin.

FlorianGeyer

Rubbish. If you have few tanks etc the best form of defence against a traditional army is to do what ISIS have been doing and also what the Houthis are doing very effectively.

A traditionally trained army such as the Turkish one would take years to retrain as indeed the SAA have done.

Standing on top of a fort is suicide against air power and artillery. Just as it was at Dien Bien Phu.

Graeme Rymill

ISIS and the Houthi have been operating in vast desert areas. The Afrin Kurds are confined to defending hilly country. Terrain dictates tactics. There is no one size fits all solution. It remains to be seen if the Afrin Kurds can conduct successful guerilla warfare once they have been forced out of their fortified positions.

FlorianGeyer

Rubbish again Graeme.

The Houthis have been most successful in the very rugged and hilly/mountainous areas in Yemen. There are a plethora of videos of this if you care to look.

ISIS has also been more successful in rugged areas of Syria and Iraq or in urban warfare where buildings create their own rugged environment , especially after the Americans have bombed them . :)

Graeme Rymill

Yes I was wrong – the terrain in Yemen is often rugged and mountainous but also includes desert. The vast spaces though confer an advantage absent in Afrin.

FlorianGeyer

Vast relatively flat desert areas without any cover are today an advantage for forces that have air dominance , long range artillery , mobile infantry, tanks and APC’s, ground radar, satellites , etc. The Iraq war of 2003 was a prime example.

Rugged terrain is the territory of well organised partisan warfare.

Rob

The devision of the Syrian nation is not in favour of Kurds and the rest of the Syrian nation. Together Syrian can defeat Turkey but when they divide then it will consume a lot of human lives, time and some military hardware. Kurds will also loose all land of Syria. The Kurds politicians are incapable, unintelligent and unqualified. —————————————————————————————————————————————

Rob

Erdogan had invaded Iraq before about in 2015 if you remember but on international pressure Erdogan withdrew from Iraq. The same mistake Erdogan have repeated again in Syria. This time Erdogan needs proper treatment that he does not do this mistake again. ————————————————————————————————————————————–

abuqahwa

A fort on a hilltop ? What is this, the middle ages ?? Isolated bunker is just a great target reference point and a deathtrap – I assume the Kurds had the sense to withdraw rather than burn to death.

Gregory Louis

There’s also a reason why FOB is built in a valley cause you.cant stuck yourself over to shoot downward so….

Bru

Replacing the Kurdish flag with the Turkish flag, none is better, let’s hope the two evils annihilate each other and everything returns to Syria.

Skagos

You can remove the Turkish flag but you can’t remove the PKK flag since its backed by United Terrorists of America.

Astar Roth

At least they’re fuckking up American plans.

Real Anti-Racist Action

Something tells me the Kurd terrorist were not building those for the SAA to use. Something tells me the Kurds were arming to declare independence. Something tells me it was meant that the SAA never be in any of those. This is further proof of Kurdish treachery, not that we needed any more proof. https://syrianfreepress.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/kurdisrael.jpg?w=529 https://wolna-polska.pl/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/a159.jpg
